HF. $30. I use it to get in bed, work on engine, clean windshield and wash roof. It lives in my covered bed.

On my prior pickup I added the Amp Rearch slide out step that cost about $350 and it was OK. Stepping down from the tailgate I could not see the step and had to trust that my foot was in the correct spot.

I purposely bought a Ford F-150 in 2022 to get the tailgate with the pull out step and the pull out grab bar. I use it at least a couple times each month when transporting items in the bed of the truck. The combination of the step and the grab bar make it safe to climb up and into the bed and equally safe coming back down to the ground.

This is a better setup than anything offered by Chevy/GM or Toyota. The Ram options cost $2,000 with the required packages as compared to $695 for the Ford bed utility package with the integrated step.

Sometimes there is a great value with one company's offering. With Ford it is with the integrated step and with GM/Chevy it is with their off-road package. I put the step above the off-road aspects as I use my pickup as a truck.

As I have gotten older I have come to be more cautious about a risk of falling and prefer to spend money on minimizing the risk. I bought a Stihl extendible hedge trimmer so I can trim a 8-foot tall edge while standing on the ground and have no need to get up on a ladder.

The only ladder that I consider safe for going up and down from the bed of a truck is one that extends past the tailgate so one can grab it before starting down the steps. Anything else is dangerous and foolhardy. I try to avoid risks where I may not recover or might be out of commission for weeks or months.

What is a peeve of mine is how Ford can introduce its innovative step and grab bar more than 10 years ago and yet there is nothing comparable today from GM/Chevy or Toyota or Ram. Why don't product managers look at their competitors products and copy the good ideas?

my last truck was a gen 2 Lightning. It was also lowered 2” in the rear to level it out. Pretty easy to get in and out of the bed.

When I ordered the gen 14, i thought, “i don’t need an old man step!”

when i received the truck and went to get in the bed i realized how much higher the bed is than my lightning.

i really wish i had gotten the old man step!

This is a package atleast on '23 and '24s, Bed Utility Package. $635.00
On my 2022 F-150 the amount on the sticker shows $695 - still a reasonable price.
