Hi everyone,

So I had the rear axle recall a month or two ago and had the work done. The service advisor at the time told me that this recall/repair was a temporary fix and that a permanent one was coming down near the end of the year. I believe I've also read other people on here say the same thing.

I took my shit wagon to the dealer again today as part of its usual "something-new-crapped-out-this-month" activities as a consequence of owning this thing, and the service advisor this time told me the rear axle fix they applied was in fact the permanent fix. Can anyone who's had this issue in the past or is in the know confirm the fix that we've been getting is in fact the permanent solution rather than a temp fix?

Wouldn't surprise me to hear they used an incremental fix they hoped would work and by dumb luck it did under the "send it into the field and see if it holds" approach.

If that's the case it's what they did, then they didn't understand the initial failure mechanism enough to be sure and just took an educated guess and it voila, interim fixed magically changed into it. They best be right, having to recall these things 8 years from now because they were wrong won't be cheap.

Funny how they still won’t seem to have a permit fixed released yet. Wonder how your deal can claim it they’ve done a permanent fix.

Can you show a copy of the invoice showing what they did? Sure can’t find any info from Ford showing a corrective action to take. I think the dealer simply blew a load of smoke up your ass!

You guys really got to try and break these things so they don't break on their own. It's like stubborn child doing the opposite of what you want.

As of the date of this post the NHTSA recall website still shows the attached as the last and current notification to dealers.

Per that document the repairs currently being done are an "INTERIM SERVICE ACTION", with a "final repair" availability forecast for "1st Quarter 2025".

the service advisor this time told me the rear axle fix they applied was in fact the permanent fix
I'm betting they can't show you any document on Ford letterhead substantiating that claim.

Believe what you will, that's your prerogative.

I am very disappointed with Ford and their truck that has become the luxury vehicle of the decade for the manner in which they deliberately try to avoid "doing the right thing" by patching up and obfusticating the issues. They have only been building F-150's for what 60 years plus now. With the influx of cheaper labor and parts from overseas and South of the border, there has been the windshielf wiper motor, headlight switch, battery and now this boondoggle.

Ford appears to be in the "running and hiding" mode on these recalls instead of stepping-up and doing the right things to remedy their mistakes.

Having it all to do over, the truck in my garage probably wouldn't be a Ford.

I took my 2022 Lariat in for this recall and all they did was inspect it to see if the axle bolt was broken or not. I'm still showing an active recall according to my VIN on Ford recall website.

Not sure about the Canadian market but I took mine in last week to have the rear window leak fixed and the advisor reported that the recall on the axle is still pending a final resolution from Ford. This is despite their completely rebuilding it just a few months ago. I'd definitely see about contacting another dealership about it if you're having issues.

Same for my 2022 - the dealer inspected it last month and it was fine, but informed me this is still an open recall and when they get a permanent fix, they will let me know. In the meantime, they will inspect and send me down the road.

I now have a creaking noise coming from the rear of my vehicle when I put it in drive or reverse, especially if I give it a little gas or hold down the brake and gas simultaneously. I took it to the dealership on Saturday, thinking the issue might be with the universal joint, but it wasn’t. You can hear the noise clearly if you put your ear to either side of the axle. Since I don’t have any loose seals or bolts, they won’t look into the rear end until a fix is released in the first quarter of 2025. I called Ford to complain about the noise, but I was told they could do nothing until the fix was available.

Has anyone else experienced a similar noise?

@Ford Motor Company, this is a massive issue with my truck.

Almost 45k miles and no bolt issue. Plenty of towing in there too. I am usually not very lucky, but I guess I am this time! But I turn it back in next month so doesn't matter all that much to me anyway.

See if it's your resonator. Mine rattled just as you described and would rattle even when you would just shut a door. It did this right after I bought it brand new. I've seen installed a resonator delete pipe and the rattle is gone, obviously.

Yep, I already replaced it, and that noise is gone, but this isn't rattling.
