"nor does it provide any extra bit of safety to anyone"

Of course a reverse beeper adds a bit of safety. If a ped is not looking they will likely hear the beeper and look. Also, the beeper will come on as soon as truck is put into reverse, before it even begins to move, giving more time for peds to react.

In some situations it's not possible for a driver to see every possible person that may cross their path. It's also possible for a driver to simply fail at their job of properly checking before backing.

For these reasons I'd like to add one to my (non-powerboost) truck. Just need to find the right one. Not too loud or adjustable volume would be nice. Or just baffle it a bit.
Very true…..I can say this. Both the Honda Pilot and Covic the daughter and Son in Law have are quieter than the Powerboost even with the MegaOhm silencer installed.

These idiots in Washington that are mandating this crap have zero clue about vehicles or how loud they are.

I blame Ralph Nader for this bullshit, his ass should be shipped off to Somalia

I was alway against disabling it being its federally mandated. After two years, I care less. It would be nice if you could temporarily disable it from the factory. Like holding a button for 5 seconds disables it for that reverse cycle. Having that go off at 3am sucks. Or for that matter, the entirety of trying to launch a boat. My boat launch you have to backup 90 degrees around a corner. 27 ft trailer on the truck in a tight crowded parking lot is ALL the beeping.

I finally unplugged it and it is so much nicer. I see above someone mentioned connecting it up to the homelink. I'll take a look at that. I don't have inspections here, But if ever in an accident..................
Sounds as if the premium model would be exactly what you want.

Not sure why Ford decided on an annoying beep instead of a static sound.

because a beep sound is most often associated with a vehicle backing. Many vehicles have a solid tone for a closing hatch

So I tried to install the MegaOhm resistor this past week. Extremely straight forward and everyone says it takes 5 minutes to install......these people must have pencil-thin fingers.
Seriously, how in the world are folks getting their fingers up on the tab to release the coupling? There is about half an inch of room to work with. My fingers don't fit...

I hear ya. I managed but it was very close and barely made it without recruiting someone with smaller fingers.

Loosen the right side mount bolt & remove the left side bolt for the intercooler mount. That provides enough room to get easy access to the wiring connector.

Easy is a relative term.
I did that and it wasn't easy re finger space.

Agreed with above.
I did that per the instructions. It helped, but not enough. The plug is sandwiched between the frame rail and intercooler piping. Still not enough room to get my finger up and on top of the plug. I'll try again using some sort of hook to press the tab down instead.

Ok……with the left bolt out the mount can be moved a few inches. I’ve worked on stuff for 40+ years. I didn’t have much issue with the connector. I’m an average size guy, 5’11”
I certainly don’t have ET fingers…….
