I have to be extremely diligent and keep it under 70 to get 20mpg. But I’m also 2” higher in the front on BFG KO2’s. So I guess that’s to be expected. If I went 80mph I’d be about 15-16mpg

Certain scenarios return amazing MPG’s - this is what I can manage on a 35mph road just above sea level, decently hilly and a loss of about 200 ft of elevation. Drops to 22 or so at 70mph.

2023 PB 501a 4x4 short bed 7.2KW. PL=1658lbs.
I frequently see mid to upper 20s (27 ish?) on day to day running around., including speeds of 72. Usually lower to mid 20s (23-25) but except for when temps were 20F and below, not usually below that. Mileage did take a hit in winter, frequently seeing just 18+.

I played around with Eco mode and honestly, didn't see any difference. Certainly not worth having to tell the truck at each startup, that yes, I did want to stay in eco mode.

While I drive, I guess you could say generally conservatively, I do put my foot in it on occasion. I mean, whats the point of having 400+ HP, if you don't use it once in a while.

Powerboost doesn't shine at highway speeds, city driving is where it shines

What vehicle that’s quicker than a Raptor gets better than 20 at 80? The PowerBoost is so good it’s laughable.

My Vette, both bikes, my Tesla...

But I jest. For it's size, and for those of you getting good results, its impressive. Mine? Antonio Brown is more consistent.

And therein lies the rub. Why?

Just of laughs:

Two days ago I took the PB to my wife's school. Easily, even took highways. I suppose 35 miles round trip. I averaged 16mpg and ran 62mph.

Yesterday I did the same trip using 50% interstate at 77mph. And received 20mpg. And I noticed in town it was much more frequently using electric mode.

Differences? Some wind the first day (course coming back should have averaged that out), and it was 10 degrees warmer the second day.

I think it's possessed.

Actually, I wonder if the long bed, and this is, is really really sensitive to wind. the '18 3.5 ecoboost (same truck otherwise) has always been touchy about wind, but it's generally not this picky, or this poor of MPG. But' it's had a topper on it it's whole life. Think I'll put my topper on this weekend.

The PB gets better gas mileage on back roads than highways. There is a hockey rink we go to an hour an a half away. If I take back roads, which adds about 15 min, and is about equal miles, I get close to 25 mpg. If I take the highway I get about 18.

Which just adds to the mystery. I have had stretches or legs of a road trip where the trucks reported mpg starts off low per usual but fails to gradually climb as high as it did the previous leg or the next leg. It’s as if it decides to run rich and I can’t fully open the choke lol. I have to use more pedal to stay at speed. Could be the wind I suppose, but I don’t think so.

I wish I knew. I'm going to talk to a larger and generally better Ford dealer to see if I can get some interest in figuring it out. The one in town just smiles and says the computer says it's fine. I've owned enough cars that misbehaved and never set off a computer to know better, but today's tech's are generally not trained to that level.

I can say I can force it into EV mode anytime I want to, (below 40mph), so I know it's at least working even when I get lousy MPG. It stumbles a tiny bit when cold. but the eco's all do that.

I wish there was a way to test the HV battery and the EV motor, but if there is I don't know it.

It SHOULD. It didn't. Hence the weirdness of this truck.

All hybrids get better gas mileage with city driving than highway. No different with a Prius hybrid or any other.

City driving it where it shines, as long as you move enough. It loves 45 and below, but if you have to stop every block, MPG is going to be single digits.

I find its just very picky on what it takes to get good mileage. I have seen low to mid 20's on certain drives. However on my daily drives its usually 18. maybe 20 on a good day.

All of you that see 20 mpg on the tollway, I almost call bs. I'm totally stock, and MPG is right on 18mpg at 70. How people are claiming mid 20's doing 77mph. I don't believe it. I'm KNOW there is variation between builds. But 7+ MPG? Thats ALOT.
