I'm probably the crazy one here. I'm up to a 16,000mi oil change interval using amsoil 5w-30 full synthetic backed by a lab test every oil change.

I’ve known a few people that run AMSOIL and do EXTENDED changes. I don’t drive enough freeway miles to do that.

What filter? If you're running a high mileage filter, you should read up on how that occurs. If you're not I hope you're at least changing it. The truck doesn't know when bypass kicks in.

Running the amsoil EAO17 filter. They say its a 25k mile filter but im not sold on that yet. Biggest issue im running into even with a catch can is fuel cutting the oil.

Long-life filters trade filter efficiency for additional holding capacity. Better off using a quality high efficiency filter and just change it every 5k or so and top up the few ounces you take out. Q&A portion on filters is worth the watch - starts appropriately.

For those that are curious. Here's 3 samples since new.
Damn, your wear metals are way high. You ideally what to be around 2 PPM per 1k on iron and 1 ppm per 1k on everything else.. Why are you pushing the oil so long with such high Iron, copper, and aluminum? These are not good results.

The filter has great numbers. but I would be leery of using it. Its media, while it filters well, has a greater oil pressure drop than the Motorcraft or Purolator Boss.

Love their oil, not sold on their filters

Kinda with ya there. Combine a great oil with an engine that runs 20-30% less than its counterpart = longer change interval. I swear the amsoil quiets the engine a little and smoothes it out a touch.

3K and 5K oil change intervals are things of the past. Modern engines and synthetic oils can tolerate 10K oil change intervals.

You’re probably right, and if I ran a fleet of a thousand vehicles I would likely follow that advice.

I have four and I no longer do my own maintenance, so full synthetic oil and filter every 5k is me doing my part to ensure my wife and daughters have an uneventful trip wherever they’re going ?

That’s your call…….my truck won’t be going over 5k OCI.
Too many trusted mechanics have shared information about the pitfalls of 10k oil changes. The oil might be OK but the deposits left in the engine are not OK

My philosophy is let the chemistry drive the oil changes. I sample about every 4 to 5,000 miles. As a practical matter that means oil changes about 12 to 15,000 miles. It appears that Boron and or TBN depletion seem to be the indicator.

Having replaced cam phasers on a '14 F150 Ecoboost 4 times I will stick with the 5K oil change interval instead of following the oil change nanny ever again, especially on a 3.5 ecoboost of any variety.

Oil changes on a 3.5 are way easier than on a 2.7, they have a 1" diameter plastic drain plug. Both are easier than cam phasers.
