Some update on mine. I will be leaving my truck tonight at the dealearship so they can replicate the cold start tomorrow morning. The forecast is cold tomorrow morning around -20C (-4F) so should be good to replicate it again. I’ve heard of the downslope parking at another forum. And I am parked nose down. When I get the truck back and the temperature conditions are just right, and no resolution yet I will try to park nose up.

Here’s another recording from this morning. It took almost 10minutes to get rid of the noise. Interesting I noticed that after the ICE stops and goes electric the noise is gone. And when the ICE goes back the noise is gone.

Is it a coincidence that both trucks park nose down?
Makes me want to try it myself, except it's extremely rare to get cold weather as well.

Well the Farmer's Almanac is predicting a rather harsh December and January for us down here. So may just get our chance.

Ive never encountered such a convoluted situation with any vehicle I’ve owned… I’ve always viewed Ford as a great and reputable brand but, damn, this is absurd.
Yeah, it's pretty much a cluster F with how Ford has been with the 10R80. Don't get me wrong it's a beast of a tranny when it works correctly, but even now 4 years in and they are still having problems with it.

I've now had 4 10r80 trucks for personal use, and while it's a little surprising the degree of variances between them, I haven't had a bad one yet.
And the one I currently have, with ~8000 miles on it, might be the best of the lot. I feel fortunate.

I'm on my 2nd one and the 1st was underfilled from the factory by nearly 2 qts. Once topped off it was flawless for the 18K miles I put on it. That truck was tuned and the transmission did see some rather spirited driving from time to time. I also disabled the auto s/s on it so it always idled at a stop so who's to know if it would have done it as well.

The current one is fine , but I HATE the stock shift pattern. The only "issue" is the slight push forward after coming to a stop and the ICE shuts down. The push forward is about the same as if you release brake pressure just enough so that the truck's brakes groan when barely creeping forward at a light a few inches, but in this case the truck doesn't actually move. So far it's very minor and nothing I would say warrants having the dealer look into..

Yet...

Update - Day 2 of parking nose up in the driveway and no noises… It’s gotta be a fluid level issue, right??
Only way to know for sure is to check the level and see if it's low or not. If it is, than it's an easy fix. If not then it's something else. Possibly the change in viscosity, or fluid level in the pan when at that particular incline causing issues when cold. Definitely would not park it nose down when cold if it stops when parked the other direction.

It all depends on where the aux pump is picking fluid up from. It should be pulling through the filter when engaged.

Geographically speaking, the gear driven transmission pump is mounted at the front (bottom) of the 10r80, and the electric auxiliary transmission pump is mounted near the rear (bottom).
Theoretically, nose down could be a drainback problem for the auxiliary?

Regardless, I hope you find it is low on fluid and that topping it off fixes the issue regardless of how you park.

Update on mine. They tried to replicate this morning but they were not able to. I was not there, I should have gone. It was cold this morning, and it is parked nose down, not as much decline as my driveway though. Anyway, the dealer said they will open another ticket with Ford to get support. I am frustrated.

May also be the aux pump simply lacks the power to prime itself with extremely cold fluid through the filter when the internal thermal plate it closed. The low temps obviously change the fluid viscosity and that may be enough to give that pump fits. From the site linked below it looks like it should flow the same through the filter when cold, but at the extreme temps like that in OP's area now it may definitely be a factor.

BTW... each time I have changed transmission fluid I have taken a sample for analysis. So far nothing unusual has shown up even with that noise...

Here's an update. Kinda good, I guess. The tech opened a hotline and found similar reports from other dealers. Hotline confirmed to replace Flex Plate and Separator Plate. I am not an expert, but if those are metal then it could contract during cold snaps. Maybe. Not even sure if there will be moving parts near those plates.

Now I am waiting for the parts to arrive and see if it still happens during cold snaps.
