Truck gets great MPG in spring/summer/fall, 3.5, power boost.
just did a 5 hour round trip highway was 9.7L/100(24.25 MPG).

but towing a (relatively small) 18.5 foot boat, total weight is probably under 2500 pounds. On a tandem trailer..

The truck on same trip did 21.7L/100 (10.8 MPG) I was just in awe watching the fuel get sucked back. This was with cruise set at 103km/h(64MPH) , in fairly flat highways.
Does not feel under powered, or like I can’t step on it to make a pass if I had to. I just feel like something has to be wrong, does your truck do better towing heavier ?

For reference, 3.5Eco max tow 3.55 getting 21 mpg not towing gets 9.5-10.5 towing 8500# boat/trailer combo at 70-75mph mostly flat.

That's aerodynamic enough and light enough to try normal mode. Just watch your trans temps.

Following the post… I am on my ninth F150 and have always found the gas mileage is cut in half when I tow. It really makes no difference how much weight I tow. Could be a 3000 pound boat or a 10,000 pound camper. It has never made sense to me…
It doesn’t matter if it was a 5.4 triton, a 3.5 eco-boost or my current power boost… The gas mileage is almost always cut in half. Can anyone explain?

I’ve wondered same thing
Mine 2.7 and on highway 68 mph mine drops from 21 to 16 pulling light aluminum boat with 60/40 Yamaha jet with aluminum trailer
My other boat is 15’ jon with 15HP 2 stroke both are light making no sense I suppose must be huge wind resistance thingie
Same truck on 2 lane roads even in mountains will climb to 23mpg
My truck hates interstate but my 14 Civic doesn’t mind interstate guess it’s much more aerodynamic

Towing a 7500 lb 24' boat up and down I95 nets me about 9 MPG in either my '23 Powerboost or my '18 Expedition. It's also about the same that I got with my former '15 Yukon XL and with my former 2020 Ram. They were all within 0.5 MPG.

Physics remains unbeaten...

I pull a 24.5 foot, 6,000# GVWR travel trailer. I usually get between 9.5 and 10.5 mpg. Terrain and wind are the biggest factors changing my mileage.

I Have gotten under 5 mpg towing 4 sleds to the mountains(from MN to Montana).. Yes it was windy, I was just glad to have an Ecoboost in that situation.. the other half tons were not able to keep up... I was still able to hold 80 MPH..

2023 PB 501a 4x4 short bed 7.2KW. PL=1658lbs.
Mine is closer to 8mpg.

Towing not as heavy as some but I wonder if the front profile is the cause.

A fuzz less than 30' and something less than 7K lbs. so far but its a full 8' wide and 11,3" tall with curves only on the top and bottom of the Y axis. Hardly a bullet shape.
