I drained the factory fill at 1,500 miles on my 5.0. Been doing Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30 every 5k miles since with a Ford FL-500S filter.

1000 miles and no more than 4000-5000 miles there after; Sooner, if on E85. My truck is currently at 9700 miles on the odo and has had 4 oil changes already.

At what mileage should I make my FIRST Oil change? I ordered a F-150 with the 5.0 Coyote Engine.
It takes only a minute to download the manual for the truck and another minute to find the oil change interval which is xxxx miles or after 12 months, whichever comes sooner. With the safety recall problems with my 2022 truck I have changed the oil only once in 2023 due to age of the oil, and will be doing so again in June of 2024.

Should be aware that the oil filter is the least effective when it is new and before any media loading has taken place (as with fuel and air filters as well).

I just changed the oil and filter in my 2024 RCSB 5.0 at 1,138 miles.
I keep reading the 5.0 has itsy bitsy tiny little narrow oil passages and how how important “runny” oil is… When I drain mine it resembles water it’s so runny… perhaps that’s the nature of synthetic oils, I’m not sure… I hope that’s good…

In the old days, the standard oil was 30W in the summer, 20W in the winter. If you had a performance motor you might run 40W or more.
Now the manufacturers are forced to do everything they can to reduce internal friction to meet mileage requirements. Now the normal oil is 5W and sometimes 0W for some makes. Conventional or synthetic doesn’t matter.
I am sure that you are using 5W-30 and it seems closer to water than the motor oil that I grew up with. The engines have narrower bearing surfaces, the oils have almost no viscosity, and many of the systems that were powered by the engine are now powered by electricity all to help meet government standards.

Retired and not looking. I am driving the wife crazy.
I change oil and filter at 1,000 miles. The old theory was to remove sand casting debris from the motor. The new theory is to change it to give it a fresh start, just in case it needs it.

Thereafter I change oil at 10,000 mile increments and filters at 5,000 mile increments. I use Amsoil 5/30 Signature and Amsoil filters in my 2018 Z06, 2023 GMC Yukon Denali 6.2, 2023 GMC Terrain with lawnmower engine, 2011 GMC Yukon Denali 6.2, 1961 Apache 10 running a 91 TPI 350 and 20/50 Signature Amsoil in my 1974 455 Cutlass Salon.

I run my cars a long time and lots of miles. Wife's 2011 Denali has 208,000 miles, my 2010 Cadillac CTS V had 203,000 miles. My 85 350 Suburban had over 300,000 miles. My1990 Taurus CTS V had 330,000 miles (the guy that did a bunch of my tuning bought it and put it on the track eating up BMW's). All on the original engine. Never had any oil usage except in that Cutlass, which is my fault in the first place.

Damn, I need to get rid of some of these. There is just the two of us.

Runny oil? Is it dark yellow?

Nice! ?? Based on your maintenance most likely that engine is going to last for a long time.

I didn't mean to distract from the OP's original post.

By runny I mean very very thin. It even goes in thin nowadays. I think @Dale B said it best. I change every 5K miles figuring it's ~1/2 of the extended oil change theory. I'm sure the EOC followers say it's waisting oil, I just don't believe in it....

Yes, more black though. I can't see through it while it drains. When I wipe up any oil with a paper towel it's black with a hint of yellow on the edges.

This reminds me of a time when my wife asked me what the "little tea pot" light on her dash board means ?‍♂

Ford does not have a recommended break in oil change interval for the 5.0 engine so I went by the recommended interval in the maintenance schedule. This is clearly spelled out in the owner's manual maintenance schedule section listing normal, towing and severe duty recommendations.

Now, with that said members of this forum will give you a thousand and one reasons of why to not go by what the manufacturer recommends. But, the bottom line is all of these are feel good solutions for the person who owns the truck.

So, in the end go with what will make you feel good about protecting your investment.

I put about 2,500 miles on my 5.0 every year so I change the oil and the filter annually.

I agree with the video, but explain to me how to pre-fill an oil filter that fits on the engine horizontally without all of the oil ending up on the floor before the gasket seats.
All of my previous cars had vertical filters and I pre-filled them, but not my new f150.
