Hey all, recently purchased a new 2024 Powerboost (coming from a 2021 Powerboost), and noticed during this break in period (currently at ~450 miles), that the electric only mode seems to only work BEFORE the vehicle warms up. At first, the vehicle would not go into electric only mode at all (for the first couple hundred miles). Now it will go electric only, but seems to only do so when the engine temp is ~170F or less. Once the engine is warmed up (like after driving on the highway), it will not go into electric mode for the rest of the trip. This includes when sitting at a stop light (sometimes for 3-4 minutes). Even on roads that it routinely goes electric only when cold, do not go electric only once warmed. Not sure if this is something to do with the break in period or not (though my 2021 never exhibited this behavior).

I think it has to learn your driving habits from what I hear. Mine would not go much into electric mode and now it does it all the time. Except on the highway i never see electric mode at hwy speed unless its a steep hill and theres not much of those in South TX

I have also recently switched from a 21 PB to a 24 PB. Mine seems to still go into electric mode after warming up. However I have noticed my MPG (18.5mpg over the first 3000 miles) is not as good as my 21 (~22mpg) was. And it seems like the truck won’t stay in electric only mode as long as my 21 did. When I’m driving I can’t keep the truck at city speed with electric only it requires more torque and ice quickly kicks in. Also when I remote start truck warms up and the ice shuts off but never for more than 10 seconds before it kicks back in. The 21 would shut off for minutes at a time once it was warm.

How long did it take for your truck to learn your habits?

Yea my MPG isnt what my 21 was, but I assumed the majority of that is because its not going into electric mode in city driving. Highway driving I'm getting around 23 mpg currently (still on dealer gas). Not sure why the learning needs to take this long however.

Hybrid mode isn't supposed to work until 140 degrees or so. Unless you get a fluid well over 200 degrees it should be working as normal. The only exception to this would be if you're operating in generator mode and the total HV sustained draw is ~16 amps or greater. This comes as a result of the AC, the DC amperage use, as well as the PPOB drawing HV.

Interesting. Mine seems to do the opposite. This morning, engine temp was 119F when i pulled out the driveway, and it drove in electric only until ~165 where the ICE kicked on permanently (even at stop lights). I did notice that this year doesn't have the "Power Flow" screen to give me an update as to why the engine is on. Not sure if i'm missing it somewhere in the menus or if Ford removed it completely.

Are you using a different drive mode? Sport keeps the ICE on while moving, tow mode keeps it running continuously.

my 24 has never done this behavior.
Take it in to get looked at

If it was in electric mode only at 119 degrees, how did the coolant temp ever get up to around 165?

ICE mode kicked on permanently once it got to 165. Engine turned on to charge the system once the batteries were depleted, but stopped once warm. Also this is in the regular driving mode. I've also tried eco mode and it does it as well.

I am experiencing the same with my 2024 versus my 2022. The 22 would kick into electric mode much more frequently and for longer periods of time/distance than my 24 has. MPG is less (aside from winter fuel and colder temps). I noticed the drop in MPG right out of the gate in September/October and chalked it up to a break-in curve, but MPG remained low through mild November days with about 1500-2000 miles on the odometer.

My 22 had rough shifts and mysterious dash/Sync resets but had sweet MPG.

My 24 has smooth shifts and normal 12V electrical behavior but worse-than-expected MPG.

If I had to pick, I think the 24 is better overall. I just wish I could have a mix of my 22 and 24.

I have a 24 with just over 3700 miles on it. This is my first PB and have nothing to compare with it. When I remote start, the ICE kicks in and when warm, ICE kicks off. As soon as I get close to the vehicle the ICE kicks in and when I back out of the driveway, the vehicle goes into electrical mode. When driving on the highways, ICE stays on unless I take my foot of the pedal and coast for a while. In city type driving, I get into electrical mode a lot. Currently, combined driving I'm getting 19.8 MPG. I was hoping to get better. I try to drive in ECO mode as much as I can remember to shift into that mode. The vehicle is faulted to normal mode. I wish it would stay in the mode last selected.
