Microgard looks interesting, anyone know if the chubby microgard will fit a 5.0? Things are snug with the standard FL500S currently, so I’m curious about the other microgard.
I haven’t seen any pictures, but I have read about 5.0 F150 owners using the FL820s sized filters on their pickups.
Every recent review on the Microgard select and Carquest filters has been great. Their quality control is top notch and watching the videos where they cut them open to inspect the construction was definitely impressive. I’d say they are one of the highest quality filters being produced right now. Hopefully it stays that way.

I think the sad thing is the way companies/corporations/brands change. There was a point in time you bought a specific brand and could reliably get the same product for years or even decades. Now it seems like you’re lucky to get from year to year without something like a manufacturer/ing change that significantly alters the underlying product without much information provided to the consumer.
Absolutely agree! But sadly, those days are long gone.

Disappointed the stash of FRAM Endurances I got may have a bad leak at the bypass valve, hopefully the 5k intervals and the Frankenmag pick up the slack.
I am not defending FRAM in any way, but I seem to recall that FRAM is (or at least was) the single most common automotive part that is/was found as a counterfeit. The problem is/was wide spread - even the most reliable and popular retail outlets had been victimized at one point or another, and it is still going on - although I can't say if the problem is still as prevalent as when I first learned of this a few years ago.

Decided to cut the Motorcraft Oil Filter apart and see for myself. There was some of that black RTV looking glue on one side. It will scratch off. I’ve had a couple now that seem like the threads aren’t cut well and don’t want to start like they should.

There are a lot of posts on various forums and other sources about glue coming loose inside MC oil filters.
Has anyone experienced this and/or have any knowledge about it actually getting into the engine and causing problems?
No problems here.

As a matter of fact, your post led me to cut open a random sample from my new 500S filter stock dated Sept 2024. My careful inspection had me concluding I wasted a new perfectly good 8 dollar filter.

If you suck on the internet/social media straw, you never know what the other end is in...

There is a Ford Performance version of that filter too. I don't buy them because they won't fit my Mustang due to the oil cooler, but should fit the 5.0 F150's. I don't believe there is enough room on a 3.5 EB/PB either

Regarding these: https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/CM-6731-FL820
I've used those Ford Racing filters on highly modified 4.6L V8's and they work fine... My understanding is they just withstand extra internal pressure for when you have a HV or HP oil pump. The can itself is thicker, probably to resist bursting (which I have never seen), and it seems like there is an extra thread or two. The ones I used to get had a blue silicon o-ring.

I don't think there is any difference in filtration though.

With today's engines and post 2017 SAE motor oils the filter is not doing much with the recommended change intervals. I understand that the oil filter market generates big bucks and is an easy one for small businesses to enter and so they need to provide a compelling rationale as to why theirs are better.

When I owned a diesel powered truck the filtration requirements for motor oil were different but not drastically so. It was fuel filtration that needed to be better as diesel fuel is very dirty with hundreds of thousands of particulates in a gallon of diesel.

There are cheaper oil filters than the Motorcraft but not worthwhile to save a couple dollars.

FYI I just bought the Microgard Select MSL57502 yesterday.

The box says "See Product for Country of Origin"

Looked all over the product and there is no Country of Origin listed anywhere on the filter.

I'm gonna have to assume China. I saw this same model filter reviewed on YouTube in a, I think, 3+ year old video and "Made in Vietnam" was printed right on the box.

I may contact O'Reilly and ask them.

I'm not a guy to cut open filters (I figure 5k oil changes, high-quality filter, and full-synthetic that meets the Ford spec and I'm doing juuusssttt fine) but I will say the filter feels heavy and well-constructed.

Any objections to Bosch Premium? There is a post I. This thread that said it filters down to 20 microns at 99% efficency.

That’s a Premium Guard made filter. From what I read, an American company assembling in Vietnam. Had some of the best specs out there.
I also was under the impression they were from Vietnam, but I'm surprised it seems to be removed from the box now and also is not printed anywhere on the actual filter either. That's why I would assume production had moved. If it was made in Vietnam and used to say made in Vietnam but now has zero info, why change the labels if the production location is still Vietnam?

I recently bought an aftermarket sensor for a 38 year old Toyota. Box said made in the USA. The sensor had the Japanese Toyota symbol on it. Maybe it was just the box made in the USA.

Ive been down this rabbit hole a number of times. The most frustrating aspect is that at any point, ownership or construction can change without notice. Just because a filter is built well today doesn't mean that it will be built well next year, next month, or even next week...

last time I bought filters for the truck I bought six. That’ll give me by for a while. I’ve thought about buying more.
