People love bells and whistles. The one truck out there that had none (V-8, no cylinder deactivation, no wet belt, etc) was the Nissan Titan, and it has been discontinued after MY24 because it sells about as well as the Pontiac Aztek did.
You are right about the Titan. It is a pretty solid truck. Always was pretty ugly though.

IMO, Toyota is NOT the king of quality. When you have to replace frames and engines, that ls not quality in my book. They've sucked for years; people are just finally coming around to smelling the coffee.

You hit the nail on the head with this. I work in automotive quality control and from what I see, the single biggest issue plaguing this industry is lack of work ethic, at even the most basic level. Nobody takes pride in anything.
If you think the automotive industry is bad……take an inside look at the aviation industry. I WONT fly anymore. I’m now semi-retired, have left the industry for good. NTSB investigations aren’t a a good time.

I bought a Nissan truck about 9 nine years ago and it with the 5 year warranty performed without a single issue. I traded if in for a 5.0 Mustang simply because I wanted a fast convertible. I would have stuck with Nissan if they would have built a single cab sport truck. My 2021 F150 XL has had only two problems one being the compass that many owners experienced and the tranny temp gauge not working. Reading posts here is why I ordered it with the minimum number of bells & whistles. The more gadgets you have the more you will have problems with especially as the truck gets old..
Bought a 2008 FJ, 100% made in Japan, not a single issue. 145k and still ticking like a Timex

Bought it used and even though they say it’s blue advantage which goes through this “Rigorous” inspection they still put the words “as is”. So I’m goosed on that as well. I’ve been a ford guy for 20 years and this has finished me off.
You bought a used truck, have no clue what the previous owners did you it, and blame Ford?

Okie dokie then

I would argue that its longevity is less about geography and more about its birthday. Japan is currently rolling out some serious stinkers. Give me a 2000 F-250 with the 7.3L Power Stroke. 24 years later, I guarantee damn tee you unless it was wrecked, it's still running.

I started paying closer attention to the aviation manufacturing industry when Boeing went through the MCAS fiasco. Then, I was blown away by what came to light with the door plug blowing out of the Alaskan flight earlier this year. Just based on what little I've seen, aviation is absolutely worse than the auto industry, and that's pure insanity.

Another reason to not be brand loyal and do your homework. I agree to get the less complicated lower trim if long term reliability is a concern or buy new and trade in every 3-5 years which is expensive. At least Ford is making some reliable engines lately until they eventually redesign them in which case steer clear of a redesign for at least two years. That 2021 was probably made in 2020 which was the worst time for quality issues for many manufacturers. I wouldn’t buy a vehicle made during the pandemic, especially model 2020 and 2021 from the manufacturer right now.

Ford hasn't really been doing many clean sheet designs. Each year the F150 has been incrementally improved The 21s did get a 'new' 3.5 and 5.0 motor. Sync 4 showed up in other vehicles before the F150, went to the expedition in 22 and the F250 in 23. The PB is a new take on their hybrid, but not a new design to them like the mach-e was. The lightning is a 21+ F150 with a different drivetrain, which is just an evolution of the 13th gen.

Ram is using one of their COTS NA V6 motors but everything else is clean sheet. 130kW generator on top of a new BEV platform. With any luck they won't share the battery roof / vehicle floor like they did with the wrangler 4xe causing the cabin to randomly explode with off gassing. In-fact I'd wait a solid 2 years after shipping before considering a new stellantis vehicle with a battery onboard to make sure they've got their cell protection down. The ram is going to be heavy already so they should just use LFP/LMFP though the dumb battery sourcing law prevents them from using the highest quality stuff on the market which only comes out of china right now. Really need an LFP derived chemistry to get max life out of it due to how small it is.

Ford has something very good going with their current engine offerings and the F150 is selling well so I think this is why they are only updating and improving current technology which is a smart move in my opinion. You also have the possibility of the outcome of the Federal election in November drastically changing the trajectory of emissions laws so it’s also wise to wait to see what happened there too.

I quit flying because I refuse to give up my rights when I step on airport property. The rights members of my family have fought for since colonial times.

I honestly can't blame you too much. If Im buying anything else besides a truck it's definitely not going be a Ford. My previous car was a 2017 GTI and I had it for 6 years. Not a single squeak, rattle or any issue. I miss it.

That being said when buying a truck there no option better than ford. Lighter than all the others thanks to aluminum, best powertrain options, best aftermarket support. Not to mention Toyotas and Chevy's like to grenades, rams and Chevy are full of electrical gremlins.

Kinda crazy to me that ford makes a better hybrid truck than Toyota does too. People think their hybrids aren't grenading because the recall covers non hybrids only, but the truth is scumbag Toyota is only recalling what they're required to.

My 79 Celica 20R had 250k on it when I sold it. Regular maintenance/water pump.
My 80 F150 4.9 had 300k + when I sold it. Regular maintenance/water pump and a starter.
My 17 Fusion 2.0T has 200k. Regular maintenance/water pump/master cylinder.
My SILs 97 325i has 400k+. Lots of maintenance and still runs like new.

Regular maintenance and proper care will in many cases net you hundreds of thousands of reliable miles from many vehicles from many manufacturers.
