I've often wondered, with all of this "planned obsolescence" how many of us plan on keeping our trucks long term?(like 10+ years) I tend to stick with things I like, but it seems like it's getting harder to do these days with the way vehicles are literally made to fail after the warranty expires it seems. Am I in the minority here? Just curious...
As long as it's reliable and serves its purpose well, I will have our 2021 for at least a few more years until I need to scratch an itch, or it starts to nickel and dime. I have a PowertrainCARE plan on it til 100k miles so I figure I'm at least good until then.

Honestly I'm not sure. It's a very nice truck. Fast, comfortable, no issues, but for some reason I'm just not bonding to it. I've been driving mid size trucks or SUVs for a lot of years. Last full size truck I bought was a new 98 F150. Still have that one with 250k miles.

This one just seems overly large and I don't particularly like driving it. I'm already thinking about trading it for a 24 Ranger when the 2.7L engine is available for order in it.
Take pictures of them side by side.

I did it and was surprised. Its bigger but not by that much.

My '22 502A has 100k/10 year warranty ESP. That is the plan. If gas breaks five bucks a gallon plan B is electric. I said that two years ago thinking it was going to match up with the ten year warranty. Gas is about double what it was when i orderd the truck in november 21....
Be happy that you do not live here in WA state. Local Shell station has regular unleaded at $5.24 gal.

I want a series hybrid with a 2-stroke compression-ignition opposed piston carbon fiber/ceramic engine or a direct carbon fuel cell. At the rate of observed progress, that's AT LEAST 15 years. I'd like this truck to last me until then, but stuff happens. If I can avoid catastrophic damage (a doe tried to commit suicide on my grill guard just last week), maintain the truck well enough, and avoid the need for a Superduty, I'd be thrilled if this truck can get me there.

I've decided to draw a hard line with this one which is not until a PHEV piggyboost comes out. 2026 is when the whole "breathalyzer to start" thing comes into fruition. I don't even drink and think that's just crazy to think about the possibility of a malfunctioning something or other not allowing a start because however it's implemented is just hot garbage.

Until I retire from towing my camper. Don't know when that will be. Hopefully at least 5 more years. Once I stop towing, I will not need a truck this large. Would sell this one, and buy a Maverick.

This one I'll keep until it's paid off. See what kind of shape it's in at that point, then decide.

I am much more mindful of maintenance etc on this one as I typically flip every year.

Haha, you must be young and don’t remember the 80’s. That was the worst decade in automotive history. Everything was depowered, the diesels were converted v8s, the paint was pealing of in sheets, lucky to get 50k out of a tranny, every dash cracked after 5yrs, and you made sure you got rid of the vehicles at 50k……worst case 60k because the values dropped like a rock after that. That’s when the Japanese came in and took over and why American vehicles are soooo much better today. In the 80’s you were lucky to get 100k on the odometer without major problems. Today you can drive any vehicle of any make 200k without major issues.
Back when there was good reason to ask “how many miles does it have on it”. I almost chuckle when that is asked now as lots of vehicles are just getting broke in at the point that yesterdays vehicles were ready for a new drive train component.

Most of my vehicles are 15-25 years old. We got rid of my wife's 2006 Expedition at 180,000 miles and 14 years because it cost too much to keep running, 5.4L 3V. My 91 Ranger I had for 280,000 miles and 26 years with very little expense. Best vehicle I have ever owned! My 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee was a good vehicle but I took it out of service when I bought my 2023 F-150 last December. It was beginning to nickel and dime me and I am not as excited to work on my own vehicles like I did 40 years ago. i do have a 1968 CJ-5 but that is another story!
