y’all don’t trade in the vehicles when it comes time to buy?
Curious what “comes time to buy?” means to you?

Until the end of its life.
Or mine. Whichever comes first.
Granted at my age "plans" tend to change.

lll hold onto mine as long as I can. Its the perfect all around vehicle for me; I got it for a great deal, the 2.7 gets good fuel economy, plenty of space for the family, I can do truck things with the bed, its super comfortable, etc. I am contemplating purchasing an extended powertrain for the piece of mind. This is my first "new" car (I got it off-loaner status with 6k miles on it) so I expect it to treat me well for at least a couple years (I drive ~20k/yr). If it starts giving me crap, then it may get passed along, but all is well at 16k miles!

My 2013 F150 Limited on the other hand.... Got it used with 64k miles on it. At 71k, I had to the timing chain/phasers. It randomly blew out the rear glass, random windshield crack for no good reason, roof leaks at the GPS antenna, broken sunroof, constant issues with the power running boards, HVAC performance sucked, failed front upper ball joints, brakes done twice in the time I owned it, failed rear caliper....the list goes on. As much as I liked that truck, it really wasnt good to me, hence my simplified purchase of an XLT. Really loving the gen14 over the 12th gen.

The basic truck is soundly designed and will last. If you can get the engine life to go a long way, the rest will follow. Planned maintenance helps. For example I found the electric fuel pump on that 30 year Suburban needed replacement every 100,000 miles... so I began just doing that.

when my mood strikes or life changes our direction. OR a vehicle jumps out and says hey you need me

Haha, you must be young and don’t remember the 80’s. That was the worst decade in automotive history. Everything was depowered, the diesels were converted v8s, the paint was pealing of in sheets, lucky to get 50k out of a tranny, every dash cracked after 5yrs, and you made sure you got rid of the vehicles at 50k……worst case 60k because the values dropped like a rock after that. That’s when the Japanese came in and took over and why American vehicles are soooo much better today. In the 80’s you were lucky to get 100k on the odometer without major problems. Today you can drive any vehicle of any make 200k without major issues.
Mid 70's to mid 80's was the dark years for the US Auto industry.

I remember my parents buying a brand new 1976 dodge. It was rusted so bad after 3 years it had to be scrapped. They bought a new 1979 Monte Carlo to replace that . 3 months in, the ashtray falls off from the lower dash. It was screwed into foam....that car lasted maybe 4 yrs?

Last time they bought new.

I ordered my 2022 RCBS. Do not plan on ever getting rid of it.

I like my truck a lot but don't love it. I don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon but I'll see where life takes me. I probably won't keep it once my 8 year extended warranty is up, but I could get rid of it next year for all I know. I had two vehicles the past 18 years so I don't necessarily go through them every couple years. Maybe something awesome comes out in the next 2-3 years that blows me away.

I've always bought F-150 Platinums. Considering the pathetic changes in 2024 with the removal of the appliqué and the introduction of letters on the hood I probably won't buy another F-150 until the next full generation comes around and they make some changes.
I've often wondered, with all of this "planned obsolescence" how many of us plan on keeping our trucks long term?(like 10+ years) I tend to stick with things I like, but it seems like it's getting harder to do these days with the way vehicles are literally made to fail after the warranty expires it seems. Am I in the minority here? Just curious...
I'm a bit skeptical about the powerboost. I don't know how it's going to hold up over the years. So I'm eyeing 2030. By then hopefully everything will have gotten a lot better with the powerboost. Don't get me wrong I REALLY like this truck. It has so many things to learn about it.

My goal is 300k miles, which at the current rate will take me 20 years to hit and I'll be an octogenarian. Here in SC I won't see any frame rust, so the limiting factor towards hitting that mileage will unfortunately be the massive amount of unskilled and/or distracted drivers around here. Imagine how much better batteries will be in 10-15 years.

I had my ‘03 until I got the ‘21. I’m 66 so I will have the ‘21 until they drive me to the nursing home.

I always say that I’ll keep a vehicle at least a couple of years, but they usually don’t last more than 6-12 months. HOWEVER, I *think* I’m finally content to keep this one for a while. As of now, probably the only thing that would get me out of my PB would another PB with double or triple the battery capacity

Honestly I'm not sure. It's a very nice truck. Fast, comfortable, no issues, but for some reason I'm just not bonding to it. I've been driving mid size trucks or SUVs for a lot of years. Last full size truck I bought was a new 98 F150. Still have that one with 250k miles.

This one just seems overly large and I don't particularly like driving it. I'm already thinking about trading it for a 24 Ranger when the 2.7L engine is available for order in it.
