Heated Steering Wheel Retrofit - updated with information

Just installed HSW on 22 F 150 lariat. Installed wiring, sccm, Hvac control did all forscan changes. Light comes on but wheel does not heat up and have a code in sccm for u210a temperature sensor. Circuit short to battery or open. Has anyone seen this or have any idea what I need to look at. Parts where from ebay and were to be new. None had any signs of being installed, scratches from bolts or anything. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you pin the correct spot on the correct connector? How did you ground it?

Put with g201 and pin 15 to bcm I have 12 volt across 2 pins to sccm this is a temp code like termister in the wheel is bad. If I unplug the heated plug from the clock spring then I also get heated steering wheel heating circuit open too. If I back probe the 2 blue wires at the steering wheel plug thet are open I would think you would have some kind of resistance based on temp. Unless I don't understand the circuit.

I believe there is something like a mosfet that fires based on the demand for heat. So the steering wheel side of the SCCM won’t always see 12V

I had a similar code when I installed the first (wrong) SCCM where the connector wasn’t actually connected to the SCCM but rather plugged into a dummy port on my original SCCM

I believe I found the problem one of the 2 small blue wire pins in brown heated steering wheel plug was not fully seated. Therefore not making contact with pin on clock spring. Thanks!

Got my heated wheel swapped in today since it finally got cold enough, and even snowed today, so was missing it past couple days. Install went super easy, just swapped in my SCCM and wheel, made the changes and everything worked like it should first go. Much nicer having the power wire already pre-wired in my 23. My factory wheel was not equipped with heat, so like any other swap, need to swap it along with the SCCM. I'm really surprised by how small of a gauge of wire they use for the 2 pin power connector from the factory. Especially since when you order the plug to add it if it isn't there from factory, how large that wire is. I'm guess that connector is used in a few other applications as well, so better large wire for everything than just small.

Yup, I picked up a HVAC module with all the goodies a while back on here, but didn't feel like swapping it yet, the screen option works just fine, and actually the temp readouts on the screen have grown on me actually, especially now since I just disabled the repeater popup option on it whenever you change temp.

Got my HSW working on my '23 Platinum and wanted to pass along some lessons learned for anyone else. Thanks to all who posted in here especially the forscan codes.

I can confirm that HVAC module: NL3Z- 19980-S works just fine if you want to save $300 and don't care about the LEDs on the temp knobs. My truck didn't come with them anyway so wasn't worth the cost to me. Picked it up for <$100

I'm new to Forscan but wasted significant time thinking I broke something or blue a fuse. Initially I had the HSW button on the HVAC module working. By the time I had all the modules programmed and cycled accessory mode on/off, HSW and my heated/cooled seat buttons were no longer working. I ultimately realized I needed to start the truck but I'm guessing there's a timeout on them in accessory mode.

You'd be surprised at how little power it uses. The seats w/ 4x more element only need 16ga.

EVs push people to rely more on the seat / wheel heaters than the cabin heat which uses considerably more energy roughly 20x more energy.

Good deal, yep HSW only works with key on engine running.

not sure about the tsb my vin is 1ftfw1ed9pfb22471 and it says it was built 3/9/23. Nothing on the website or ford pass app. Guess a call to the dealer is in store.

Where can we check the TSB for VIN numbers? My 23 Limited falls in the right date range.

Hey @rugedraw would you maybe have access to the VIN list for the Heated Steering Wheel Performance Upgrade 22G06 and could check the one above? I tried right when the TSB came out for it, but seems like you needed an official Ford login to access it at the time.

The way to check would be to run the VIN through PTS to see it the FSA appears under the VIN. I can check them tomorrow. @DcnPat need your VIN.

It does not show for your VIN. At least not yet. I don't know if Ford has even gone live with it yet, so feel free to ask me to check again in another week or so. I have checked a few trucks and none shows it as an active campaign yet.
