My 2024 PB has a H7 battery. There does not appear to be enough room to install an H8 battery. Is there a change from earlier PB that no longer makes installing an H8 in a PB feasible? Can you still use an H8 in a 2023 PB?

From my understanding no Pb from any year can use an H-8 battery due to the modules attached to the battery tray. I don't have one, but I have been on this forum since July 2021 and that has been the talk all along. Sorry.

The powerboost was never able to fit an H8 with all the extra magic stuff in there. I believe they used to come with an H6 from the factory

same here.. no PB, but that’s what I have read in my time here

just looked at my order, this is the part number I used.

KL3Z-10A687-C

Fairway Ford parts is showing it as discontinued now though.
I picked up the same part from Fordparts.com (KL3Z10A687C).

Used with an Interstate H8 from Costco (same price as the H7 there) on a non-PB 2021 Lariat 3.5. I did have to cut a small piece of cloth loom tape in order to more comfortably stretch the harness into place.

Edit: Oh I did also reset the BMS by following the procedure below. Not sure if it was strictly required but figured it could not hurt:

  1. Sit in the vehicle and turn the key to the on position
  2. Flash the high beams five times
  3. Tap the brake pedal three times
  4. Wait about five to ten seconds
  5. Look for the battery light flashing on the right side of the dash

I'm just about ready to upgrade to the H8 battery, but a question to those who have done so already, does the battery cables (mainly the positive cable) have enough slack (for lack of a better term) to reach the post, as the H8 Battery is about an inch to inch and a half longer? thanks for your help!
Did you ever replace your battery. I replaced the H6 in my '23 Platinum EcoBoost. H8 dropped in just fine. Cables were long enough and the swap was straightforward. I DID place it on the charger overnight, just to make me happy and then dropped it in. Been working great ever since. No issues and seems to have cleared up some annoyances with SOC issues and OTAs.

Direct swap on my '24. Zero issues, and no ridiculous charging with a maintainer overnight. Go for it!
Why did you replace your battery so soon? Were you having the Standby-mode deal where you couldn't connect to your app? I'm trying to figure that one out now. What H8 battery did you get?

Hello. I'm following this thread with great interest, but need a sanity check.
Yesterday I was at Walmart and stopped to look at an H8 battery, and boy is it big! It seems much bigger than the H6. Am I missing something?

Thanks, Leo

Yep, an H8 is substantially larger than an H6. But that's a necessity to gain the added capacity / capabilities in a standard AGM package which is the point and benefit of the swap.

Whether you need or want what the H8 brings to the table is your call, but if you do, it's a drop-in fit for your 3.5EB.

There is a 3 inch difference length size.

If curious, here are the dimensions of the different batteries. Length is the only thing different.

H6 (Group 48):
Approx. 10.9” L × 6.9” W × 7.5” H

H7 (Group 94R)
:
Approx. 12.4” L × 6.9” W × 7.5” H

H8 (Group 49)
:
Approx. 13.9” L × 6.9” W × 7.5” H

What is the preferred battery? I'm thinking of getting one from either Costco or Walmart.

I went with Costco personally. $179 and others were much higher. My Costco battery in my jeep I bought in 2020 and it mainly just sits months at a time. Still fires right up.

Editing to say I returned the Costco battery. Low power mode after just a few days and then after not driving one day I had a no start issue. Could’ve been just a bad one but warranty is better on the Walmart battery. 4 years free replacement vs Costco 36 month prorated.
