H8 Battery upgrade

I went with Costco personally. $179 and others were much higher. My Costco battery in my jeep I bought in 2020 and it mainly just sits months at a time. Still fires right up.

+1 Costco is easier to deal with for warranty IMO although I think Walmart's warranty is better on paper (replacement vs proration).

No experience with Costco** but FWIW I killed a Walmart Everstart through my own fault (a rarely driven truck that I failed to keep charged so the battery was totally depleted multiple times over a 2-year period).

About 24 months into the 48 month free-replacement warranty - Walmart exchanged for new at no cost with no questions asked, walk-in with the old and walk-out with the new, no hassles and quick.

YMMV but I'd say that was as easy a warranty dealing as one could ever expect for any product.

And yeah, I'm now more diligent about keeping that rarely-driven battery charged.

**None of the ~650 Costco stores are near me; with ~4500 stores there always seems to be a Walmart nearby, with no membership fee required.

Installed an AutoZone Duralast Platinum H8AGM today in my 2024 STX 2.7L, after charging it fully, plus put on the new larger blanket listed earlier. Made in Mexico it says. I’ve generally had good luck with AutoZone batteries in my lifetime. 4 yr replacement warranty on this one, and Autozone stores are all over the USA. Wasn’t having any issues with my factory H6 yet, and I’ve charged it too with the NOCO a few times over the 6 months I’ve had it. Swapped it since our son is coming home from grad school this weekend in my ‘22 Escape, which has the same H6 as the truck did, so going to swap the truck’s old H6 into the Escape since it’s ~ 2.5 yrs newer battery. Truck‘s old H6 tests good on my tester and is on the NOCO right now waiting on its new assignment.

Bought an H8 at Walmart yesterday and changed it in the parking log. No issues with cables or fitment. As others have said, it appears the tray was designed for this battery, and Ford realized they could save $7 per by putting in the H6.

What is the preferred battery? I'm thinking of getting one from either Costco or Walmart.

FYI, when I’m ready I will go Walmart. There’s a four year replacement guarantee.

Will the H8 Everstart fit a 2024 2.7 Ecoboost F-150 without any modifications except for a new heat blanket and a BMS reset? Are there any special procedures when removing/replacing the battery with regards to the alarm or harming the computer? (My motorcycle has a proper sequence). I am sick and tired of not being able to contact the truck with the Fordpass app after the truck sits for 2 weeks, especially using the remote start in the winter.

Hello. I'm following this thread with great interest, but need a sanity check.
Yesterday I was at Walmart and stopped to look at an H8 battery, and boy is it big! It seems much bigger than the H6. Am I missing something?

Walmart H8 is 13.9 x 6.9 x 7.5 900 CCA

Walmart H7 is 12.4 x 6.9 x 7.5 850 CCA

Walmart H6 is 11.9 x 7.5 x 7.7 760 CCA

When I measured the tray on my 21, there was 14 inches available.

Ordered an Everlast H8 battery and blanket today. If you get the Everstart online from Walmart, make sure you get the one that says "Boxed" version. According to the reviews, the other one apparently does not have the same specs. Also stopped at the Ford dealer for the blanket and it was $42, found the same OEM one on line for $20.62 here:

They send it to you from a local Ford Dealer.

Unfortunately Costco has Interstate (At least all the Costcos I have gone to). We use them at work and they are hit or miss to say the least. We have a bunch that failed this year after only one and a half years of use. I would never put one in a personal vehicle.

That’s not good. Costco having interstate was why I chose that. I’ve driven my Jeep with my 2020 Costco battery maybe 2000 miles since swapping that battery in 2020. It’s never given me a single issue and I don’t leave it on a charger like I probably should.

So I am wanting to bookmark the answer the following question. I went through this whole thread and did not see it answered directly. I have a Plat PB ordered and set to deliver later this month. My intentions are to replace the battery at the first sign of any issues. What I am wanting to bookmark is the exact size of battery upgrade the Powerboost can accept??

I saw on this thread that the H8 will not fit. So which larger upgraded batter will work for the PowerBoost?? Will an H7 fit and be sufficient??

I would go online and download the owners manual. I found the answer you are asking for my 21 under the specifications page for the engine model of the truck.

Your new truck should come from the factory with an H7 battery already. The H8 will not fit due to some modules at the battery tray. So when your battery goes out you’ll just want another H7 unless changes were made to the PB battery tray.
