Why did Ford move the licence plate to the center of any truck that had the 3.5L EB engine? My 2014 truck had the offset plate. Ford began centering the plate sometime after that. Why would they do that if downgraded performance?
As some stated with sensors, all that's left to place it. They aren't too worries about max power.
Lucky in my state, boost owners can leave it off, we don't require a front plate.

The intercooler will still work. All it takes for it to work is to be isolated from the hot engine compartment so it can cool the intake charge. Lots of race cars run front mounted intercoolers with the nose completely blocked off.
You can get any lost power back by installing a K&N filter. It is good for 50 hp and 100 lbs of torque.
You jest.......right?

I think having the front plate might help with aero on these trucks. I leave it off my mustang for the opposite reason, it hurts aero in that car. I ain't ever getting the truck hit anyway even up thin air mountains.

That K&N filter right in front of that new supercharger, which is sitting on top of your motor.:unsure::unsure: You know the one that gives you 50 hp and 100 ftlbs

It would be interesting to see if the performance dose improve by removing the license plate and bracket. Either on the street or dyno. If so, how much of a difference.
I did it to help with the airflow, even if it's very minor, and just seeing the intercooler walking up excites me, lol.

@Vick! what was your solution for mounting? Thinking about buying the builtright mount, but didn't like the warning about car washes. I have the front sensors.

I bought this one off of Amazon, theres two holes behind the plastic bumper cover right above the tow hook. Once u lift a rubber flap u can see the holes in the bumper frame. From there the bottom bracket tightens up against the bumper above the tow hook. Alot of buyers want to mount it to the tow hook but not what its meant for. This is obviously on the passenger side as the radar or whatever is on the drivers side. I did have to modify the bracket by making the holes a bit bigger (more oval shaped than it aleady is) to have the bolts line up properly through the bumper. I have the 4 sensors, doesnt interfere with anything up to now.

well, you have multiple groups at Ford. Some are groups of engineers and some are designers. They are always in a battle over who has the decision upon what goes where.

My thought is that the designers wanted the license plate centered on the front bumper because that’s what most of the public would expect. The engineers would want a license plate offset from center. Knowing that blocking the inlet for the airflow to the intercooler would be detrimental to the engine’s performance.

So in my opinion, it sounds as if the engineers lost this battle to the designers

So has anyone thought about drilling holes in the plate where there are no numbers or letters? Maybe that would let enough air through. Not sure it is even legal to do it though.
