I wonder if the backside of the top frame could be shaved down enough to not touch and still remain tight?

Offset mount looks bad to me, I couldn't do it.

I think the factory center mount looks nice but I removed it recently just to see. No scratches, another plus for chrome bumpers. Our Mercedes hasn't had a front plate on it since we bought it almost 10 years ago. Not a single issue in our front plate mandatory state. But then again, the way we drive we never get pulled over for anything.

like drywall screws? where did you mount it?
Stainless steel self tappers. I have a 5.0 and behind the plate is solid plastic. I removed my plate and drilled holes and sank the screws in the recesses.

Retired and not looking. I am driving the wife crazy.
I ran no front plate for 2.5 years on my previous vehicle, never had an issue with the Mounties. Although we do have a large number of Alberta registered vehicles around that don’t require it, so maybe that helps with camouflage lol. I still doubt any officer would pull you over for the sole reason of having no front plate, maybe if you were stopped for something else they might tack it on.
When an officer is out fishing, no front license plate is a great reason to pull you over. I have been pulled over several times fishing for problems.

I was pulled over once because my license plate lights were out. No ticket. I got home and they were working fine.

Another good one was my expired inspection/license renewal sticker. Cop parked and in the car on the right shoulder. I go by at 70 mph, which was the posted speed, in the left hand lane because I am passing a car. Sticker in the left corner of my windshield. Next thing I know he is pulling me over. I get the once over, then he tells me he thought my sticker was several months expired. My sticker is on the left two lanes over from the cop. He was on the right shoulder, effectively 3 lanes over. No way he sees that.

I was pulled over for "DWI" one night. I was sober as a Baptist church mouse. He just talked to me while doing a once over with a flashlight. Did not even asked to see my license, concealed carry , or insurance. No perp walk.

I have been pulled over so they can see my car. 61 Chevy truck. It was Cowboy blue, all chrome refinished, fancy bed, power windows, brakes, seats, emergency brake, and much more. Only shown twice and walked out with an award both times. I was happy to let them explore on that one.

I know there were two other times but don't remember the reasons

I was driving a 1990 SHO, 2005 CTS V, 2010 CTSV, or a 2018 Z06. I guess I bring it on myself.

Hmmm, prompted by this thread to go take a look and pics, I find the L-shaped OE plate mount on my 2022 4WD Lariat 3.5EB doesn't touch the chrome bumper at all, being bolted firmly to the painted bracketry in the opening below the bumper.

It stands-off from the chrome with about 3/16" clearance and is rigid enough that there's no indication it can vibrate to touch the bumper.

Three summers of 'cool' towing in hotter-than-hell Texas suggest that airflow is just fine.

YMMV.

Mine looks exactly like yours but is an OEM snap on.

I guess it could hold dirt, which could hold moisture but it doesn't touch anything but plastic.
