So I bought the cable and a battery maintainer and figured I would spend tonight getting everything installed.

First: When installing the drivers, it asks me to activate and that fails. I didn't spend to much time on that because it just seems to be to register it.

Second: I download the latest FDRS 46.5.5 which came out on 11/12. (If I need to install an older version, please provide a link if you have it) When it's installed I don't have an option for a Motorcraft account. I tried both of the non-dealer options and my password doesn't work on either. I am able to login to the motorcraft website without issues. Any ideas?

Choose Independent and it will pop up a login screen.

do you have to already purchase the license for that to work? I haven't done that yet since I don't want the 2 day clock to start yet. I attempted to login and that and it didn't work:

Yea, you need to buy the license to log in. Do it when you're ready to start.

DSM software will need to be rolled back to fix the running boards issue. It happens to many 2021s including my own. Nothing other than rolling back the firmware will fix it.
I have the same running board issue. Would you send me the file and Instructions to roll back the DSM. 2021 F-150 Limited Poweboost.

That seems perfectly normal. Voltage and state of charge is not the same thing, so you can have good voltage and low charge. I would leave the charger on it until it gets to 100% and see if it goes away.
So aparently, changing the Auto Start-Stop to disabled in FORscan will generate the Service Charging System Soon error message. The battery is just fine.

But I thought I saw somewhere mentioned that there are possibly two settings locations to disable Start-Stop in FORscan, anyone know anything about that?

The best method on the 21+ is to just buy the eliminator from amazon. It can be done with Forscan, but it is tricking the truck in to thinking you are constantly turning.

Thank you, will look at that.

So got the pop-up message about the update starting on the USB for the APIM, but was at the worst time, as was just about to get some groceries and had to get out of the truck. How long does the truck need to run for the first stage to process? There was no activity light on the USB stick, and left the truck running for over an hour total, with no progress being shown. Had to eventually shut it off...

Which change did you use to disable Auto Start Stop? It should work without issues on a 21 but I know it doesn't on some of the later trucks. This is what I used on my 21.

Auto Start/Stop Disabled PSCM 730-03-01 xxxx xxxx 00--

tricks Auto Start/Stop into thinking a steering event is happening at a stop so ASS never happens

About 10 minutes, unless it didn't work. I assume it didn't if you didn't see a message about turning off the truck for 10 minutes.

I have an early build 2021 F150 that’s stuck on an old SYNC version with the version/revision fields showing blank. After being failed by my dealer and reading through the last ~100 pages of this thread, I decided to try fixing it myself with a Mongoose cable and an FDRS subscription. I’m now stuck and could use some guidance.


What I’ve done so far:
  • FDRS showed a pending APIM update (nothing for GWM, but there were many others that I decided to wait on until the APIM is at least unstuck).
  • I connected the truck to a 20A power supply and ran the APIM update.
  • After a long download, FDRS prompted me to insert a USB drive. I used a 32GB SanDisk formatted exFAT and named “FDRS.”
  • Plugged into the truck, the update immediately started and later asked for a restart.
  • I let the truck sit 10+ minutes, then restarted and sat for 10+ min. I never got an “update successful” message, but FDRS asked whether it succeeded. I clicked “yes,” and FDRS then indicated the update failed.

I tried again with a freshly formatted USB drive. The download was much faster, but the update didn’t start right away. A couple days later, during my drive to work, the truck finally reported that an update was in progress. It finished, asked for a restart, and I let it sit for a few hours before restarting. Again, no confirmation message. It’s now been a few days, the USB is still plugged in, and SYNC still shows blank version/revision fields, so it seems like the update didn’t take.

My 2 day FDRS subscription has expired, so I can’t check anything further there. I’m unsure whether I should wait to see if the truck eventually reports success/failure or go ahead and renew FDRS and attempt the APIM update again.

I’ve also seen that disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 20+ minutes might help SYNC recognize the update or at least refresh the version reporting. Maybe I should try that next...


If anyone has advice, I’d really appreciate it. This forum has been incredibly helpful, especially after getting nowhere with my dealer.

Just keep waiting. It will eventually take. Leave the USB plugged in.

Have you verified that the Sync version didn't change?
And also try a Sync reset just in case it's hung up?
