Repair it. I’ve been all over forums and such and I’ve probably explained it in this post too, but in case not the short story is BCM replacement required updates of all modules, and in doing so they bricked the IPC and they can’t get it to update or do a PMI now.

im getting frustrated with ford dragging their feet and am tempted to tow it away and deal with it myself as I have multiple trips in jeopardy now that I won’t a have a truck for the foreseeable future. I’m told up to 2 weeks to hear back from ford (it’s been 5 day), any module or likely part is a week away, and they’re booking a week out. 4-5 weeks is the timeline I’m given.

while it’s possible the IPC is bricked for good, I feel with FDRS and enough time and effort (and the great knowledge on this thread) I can get it sorted.
Ford has had my truck for over 170 days trying to figure out a problem. Fords engineers can't even figure out how to fix these things...

Can I ask what issues you’re having?
Are you under warranty?

They can't figure out why the headlights don't work right on mine and it is still covered under warranty. If the dealership doesn't know what's wrong with your truck, they will just let it sit and wait for the engineers to eventually respond with the next test to conduct and then if that doesn't fix it, your truck goes back into the waiting parking lot while the engineers try to figure out the next step. It is usually over a week between contacting engineering and then waiting for their next response for the tech.

10th + 2 = 12th

If you buy early on first day you can squeeze 3 full days out of it. It starts working immediately that day, then you get two full days after. :)
What I didn't understand is that the expiration date is 2 days in the future, but you get the entire calendar day, not 48 hours.

That’s rough man. I don’t really know how they think that’s an okay level of service. I don’t know what the answer is cause I’m sure they’re busy, but come on. A dude without his truck for 170 days should have the best engineers on that case 24/7.

it drives me nuts cause I’ve worked at heavy truck dealers for years, and tech support/engineers were only ever an hour or two away. Not a week.

I would love to know what % of 170 days was the truck actually in a service bay and "on the clock"?

It would take a small fraction of that amount of time to replace every component in play regarding the headlights.
This is a human failure far more than a mechanical one.

You’re 100% correct I think, but it’s no fault of his or the dealers from what I’m experiencing. Ford engineers and tech support are very slow to respond, like he said it’s a week for a response, a few days/week to book it into the schedule and finally work on it. Not fixed? Back to waiting for ford engineers. Rinse and repeat.

dealers hands are tied. Dealers have to do as they’re told for warranty, and if they’re told to wait for tech support, then they have to wait.

I’m not even in warranty anymore and my trucks been sitting in the back lot for a week and half waiting for tech support as they don’t know what to do lol.

I did some updates today for the first time. My '21 J1 XLT has been keeping up as well as any other truck but I want to get the turn signal cameras now, rather than waiting. (I have Co-Pilot 360 Assist 2.0 and am installing a wired Ford camera on my trailer.)

Installing FDRS on my Windows 11 Pro laptop wasn't flawless but I eventually got connected to the servers and logged in. Connecting to my truck with a Mongoose cable downloaded the history with no apparent issues. The SW Update tab showed downloads available for ABC, ACM, BCM, HVAC, IPC, IPMA and PSCM. Results are below.

moduledurationcomment
IPC0aborted. would take too long
HVAC6 minsuccess
BCM6 minfailed. didn't retry.
ACM2 minapparent success
ABS4 minsuccess
PSCM7 minsuccess
IPMA2h 34 minsuccess. ran automatically after PSCM

After shutting everything down and coming back 3 hours later, ACM was still in the list to run.

Despite having aborted BCM and there being no evidence in history of it running to completion in combination with something else, it's no longer in the list of modules to update.

Running ACM again repeatedly appears to succeed each time but repeating the network test resulted in it still being active. How do I get past that? There are no outstanding CMDTCs, if that means anything.

IPC is still outstanding. I'll start that tomorrow.

I've seen references to using USB drive to update modules. I upgraded Sync 3 on my previous truck but don't see how to get the files from FDRS onto a USB drive. Help?

Related to the USB question, a friend in another state has a '16 Canadian F250. Identifying it by VIN, FDRS says only Sync modules are supported on his vehicle. (It's not even Sync 3, I don't think.) Can I download the APIM update (G2231301-9.0) and send it to him on a USB drive?

Thanks for your help.

The standard 12v AGM mode
Today I learned the Noco Genius 10 has a power supply mode. With it plugged in, but not connected to anything, press and hold the mode button. The "12V supply" light next to the 6V setting will light up. Connect to the battery in the normal manner after it does.

Problems!

I tried and failed to update IPC today.

I left the laptop plugged in to a 12V power supply and in performance mode so it won't sleep. My NoCo Genius 10 is in 12V supply mode with FDRS showing constant voltage around 12.5.

I came and went a few times and it was progressing slowly. When I came out most recently, the instrument panel was dark as was the laptop screen. When the laptop resumed, FDRS indicated failure.

The instrument panel was dead and i now have a lot of DTCs. I think the truck hit a time-out on the ignition being on. If the 12V power supply shut down, the laptop will, too.

I rebooted the laptop, restarted FDRS and the IPC update. I guess I'll have to sit here and read a book to be able to respond to an ignition shutdown notice. But, since the instrument panel is blank, will I even get one?

My understanding was that mode is intended to be used to power something externally or in place of having a battery for a short period of time. That is not the mode I use.
