question for the group. I purchased the Mongoose Plus J2534 last year and with the help of folks on here I got my truck updated and everything works automatically now with updates. I would like to sell my device. Is the device tied to my name in anyway? Do I need to deactivate or unregister the device to sell it? If anyone has any idea I'd appreciate the help! Thank you.
Interesting......I bought mine 3yrs ago & have used it 4 times to do updates. Personally, I'd loan it out but would never sell it.

While it is technically permanently registered to you only mongoose themselves has access to the information, there is no deactivation or anything of the sort, I would potentially be interested in buying your cable to add to my inventory of loaners, it seems the more we get the bigger the wait-list becomes
I was actually thinking the same thing.

New 2021 owner here. Not sure if I was stuck with bad software from the factory or if the previous owner just rejected all updates to the point of the truck being orphaned, but I finally got up to date yesterday with FDRS. Took me about 12 hours, but I was late on a few actions since I was doing other stuff around the garage.

I did have login issues, and the extremely helpful guides out there don't seem have been updated for the new login process. I had to select the Independent Operator/Non-Dealer option and login to Motorcraft with my email and password through the browser popup. This would only work on a fresh start of FDRS, and if I tried that method after failing to login with another selection (eg - Non-Dealer ETIS) nothing at all would work from then on. I had also tried an older FDRS version but to no luck. If you haven't logged into your Motorcraft account in awhile, do that first as there is a license agreement and email verification you need to complete if you haven't already.

Otherwise the update was straight forward. I had a number of GWM and APIM updates appear in secession, but the list is finally clear. IPMA took maybe an hour, not as long as I expected, but there were a number of small pop-up updates late in the process that required pretty continuous attention. At one point FDRS crashed, but luckily it was during a download and not a module write so I was able to simply restart the particular update without issue.

Word of advice, if you're on an adequate battery charger you don't need to actually start the engine despite FDRS telling. USB updates worked fine without doing so for me, and saved me from having to keep opening and closing my garage door on a freezing cold day (I had missed this note in the guide).

Special thanks to @"Steve" for loaning me his Mongoose. Hit him up if you're in the DFW area, as he was very helpful and offered a bunch of great advice!

Thank You. Many great people in the Forum.

Funny How I talked iceMan into taking the plunge and its led to this thread being created. Amazing how many trucks and people have rolled through here.

Probably 10x as many lurkers that come through as well.

Curious to see the visitation stats for the thread.

It now looks like my truck (Jan 2023 build, sat on dealer lot until I purchased in Nov 23) has officially been abandoned by Ford for OTAs ...

Aug 24, 2023 OTA failed, Aug 25, 2023 OTA passed, HOWEVER, Aug 25, 2023 OTA will retry....

Zero, zip, nada, none OTAs have been scheduled since I purchased the truck in mid November.

Yeah, looks like I made a big mistake trading in my 2018 3.5EB, with no issues whatsoever, for an electronically problematic 2023 Limited.

Also from PTS...

Right about the same time stamps I lost auto-high beams, audio went wonky (sound went full front speaker to full rear speaker, and repeat). Did the Windows reset (power off, re-start) and all went back to normal.

It's looking more and more like junior level programmers are now writing the code on our very expensive trucks. SMH!

No wonder dealerships don't want anything to do with reprogramming and/or updating modules!
