This morning is my first time using FDRS. I did the Wireless Charging Module update first, and it was quick and easy. I then initiated the APIM update process. I went through the steps as directed and eventually got the point where I was instructed to remove the USB stick, insert it into the truck's USB port, and wait for a pop-up window on the car's screen, and then wait to be instructed to turn the vehicle off and wait for 10 minutes before returning and starting the vehicle.

I waited for 20 minutes and never got the first pop-up window, so I turned the vehicle off, left it, and came back 12 minutes later and restarted the vehicle. Again I got no pop-up windows. After that, I went to "System Updates" on the Sync screen, hit update details, and then it told me to leave the USB stick in and that I could drive the truck in the meantime. I turned it off, restarted it 15 minutes later, and the update had successfully completed. My Sync version is now 22293.

I now have a TCU update in progress.

Thanks for everybody's contributions to this thread for the knowledge I needed to get this going.

Just curious, which update kills Secure Alert. PTS says I am currently cued for 4.2.1 GWM.

Question for the group.... on the USB drive for updating, does our trucks support usb 3.0 for faster transfer? Need to pickup a USB and don't want to grab a 3.0 if it will create any conflicts.

Mongoose cable is in route and here friday. Thanks all.

I used the 3.2 thumb drive recommended in this thread, but there's nothing you can do about the download speed. It's pitifully slow from FDRS.

It’s not the in vehicle portion you have to worry about, it’s the download from Ford servers, you only get very slow download speeds from their servers and on a 6 gig update. It takes a looooong time. Even with that, the in truck portion took about 10 minutes to install an update that took me 4-5 hours to download

Thank you both for confirmation, it sounds like the truck is not the limited factor its the software download to the USB drive. Will grab the recommended one.

I did two GWM installs, a 6GB APIM install, and a TCU install yesterday. Whole process took just short of two hours including download time, and the Wifi router is in the house and my truck and laptop were in the driveway. Nothing special here, just basic Verizon FIOS. The downloads were decently fast. The time consuming part was just the install in the truck and the 10 minute wait time between USB installs.

Afternoon all,
Just called Ford's OTA line and was told that they have not seen anything in the last 60 days for my 21 PB XLT 302A (non-360/non-BC). The last update it received was the " 22-PU0706-SCH-POPA " update in September 2022. They did mention there were some DTC's for March/April however.

So - does this mean my truck is in an OTA limbo (again)?

No, you're on Sync 22177, so you are past that point. You are behind on updates and most likely are at the point where you need the 2.7.3 and 2.7.4 updates for the IPC that have been very problematic to go through via the OTA process and are rarely pushed out by Ford to trucks that still need them.

Well crap, thanks for the quick response. So I'm assuming my next step is to take it to the dealership or buy the Mongoose (or the VCX Nano in a very limited fashion) to update the IPC?

VCX is not recommended; refer to page one of this thread for the reason why. If you are going to buy one, get the Mongoose.

Or, get on the list and borrow one of mine:

Also, post on the thread below for someone with FDRS to check your VIN to confirm the IPC update is there. As far behind as your truck is, waiting for OTA's to their job will take a looooooong time.
