The last version of Windows NT (4.0) was released 27 YEARS ago.
The last release (4.0 SP6a) was released 21 years ago.
Where on God's green earth have you been??!!??
Sorry, all records regarding what happened to me 21 years ago have been destroyed, and I am not allowed to speak to it anymore.......

I was still deploying NT4 servers right up to Y2K and the arrival of Server 2000.
Isn't Server 2022 still NT technically? :)
This. My firehouse uses server based software, and I think thats where the NT comes from.

I would hope so ... Server 2000 wasn't released to manufacturing until 16 days before Y2K.

No. Server 2022 is based on the same codebase as Windows 10 and it won't run on 32-bit processors like NT did.

When I look at the system settings, it said Windows 10 Pro

but when installing FRDS I see this

I went ahead and installed it but I keep getting this when I try to run F
I have installed OPUS IVS and activated my Mongoose, so I don not know what's happening.
Its great you have some help and you are not running NT, but I also think you want to delete that screen shot of your system info. I figure the fire department would rather not have your domain and specific machine name floating around.

You can easily edit your post and delete the attachments.

Good point, especially with this savvy crowd. Next thing I know, I’ll have double honking fire engines with Bambi mode. Photo deleted(y)

Is there any reason that the Mongoose will not work correctly if I use a USB extension cable with it? I may have available to me, a newer style small desktop computer, and monitor, that I would setup on my workbench. I think I would need to use a 10' USB extension cable to be able to reach the OBDII port.

I'm not sure but for your sanity sir...I would recommend investing in a cheap laptop it's much easier to sit in the truck with all the key on key off you have to do as you follow along with FDRS updates. Hell you can even get a good laptop cheap. I'm sure someone else will answer your question about the adaptor working for you.

10’ should be fine, but I wouldn’t go much further without a powered hub.

You can install chrome Remote Desktop on the PC and then carry your laptop to the truck and controller the desktop remotely.

Many of the changes require you to power the vehicle off then on. I would second (third?) the recommendation to get a cheap laptop.

I have zero interest in a laptop, they seem to be the first type of device to need upgrading as time goes on. I will only need to use it 1-4 times a year (if that) for vehicle connections, and the battery will always be dead.

To me, for the few times I will need to connect to my truck, a desktop that is sitting on my bench will not be a big bother, and I will be able to use it for all other things internet on a regular basis when working on my vehicles, or just in the garage. Great for accessing YouTube instructional videos, and the like.

My only concern was if it would cause an issue using a Mongoose cave with a USB extension.

Otherwise, and for most part, your advice on the laptop would be spot on. Thanks for your input

Would I be able to remote into the Windows desktop from my Mac laptop, using Chrome Remote? I do have Google Chrome on my MacBook, and if so, this would possible provide the best of both worlds for me.

How hard would it be to move the entire desktop? Obviously not ideal, but I’m trying to think outside of the box a little. Buying a small, cheap table to sit the computer on is probably much less than a new laptop

I can definitely relate to my laptop battery always being dead. Luckily mine uses the same usb-c charger as my work laptop so it is readily available and my powerboost has more outlets than I could ever use.

This is why I want to keep the desktop on the workbench. I have a beautiful hutch setup, and a permanently mounted setup would be useful in so many more ways than a portable option that I wouldn’t use very much.
