The E-Torx sockets I have are tapered:

The head of the bolts holding the filter is only about 1mm thick, so this socket won't work. Make sure you get e-torx sockets that are squared off and not tapered.
belt sander fixes that socket very quickly

5.0 V8 and PowerBoost both have this unique erm *quirk*, the longer powertrain pushes the back of the pan of the drivetrain into a hard spot (longer engine block with two extra cylinders or the pancake inline electric motor). Something to be aware of. My opinion is you are better off with the dealer on these two powertrains. The rest don’t require the mount removal.

I turned mine down in my lathe, you can take a grinder and take a little off

I bought my own this morning so I could grind it down. Solved the issue of the socket not fitting. Did not solve the issue of a ratchet not fitting. I gave up and dropped the Y-Pipe from the turbos.

And this thread is why I'm gonna just pay to have it done.

lol
Im planning on frequent drain & fills instead of going through this rigmorale. Will have the dealer do the full drain&filter at spec service interval.

Looks like I mixed up my posts between this thread and the rubber hose thread.

Yes, a grinder fixes the issue. But I didn't want to take a grinder to the neighbor's snap-on socket. I had to make a trip to harbor freight for a cheap one.

You know, it surprises me that some folks who'll go so far as change synthetic transmission every 30,000 miles will think nothing if using a $12 chain-store Chineasium transmission filter.

Come-on, guys. Step up your game!

It's a $9,000 unit.

For the love of God, buy a Motorcraft filter.
