Had fun working on my truck this weekend. I ended up getting a PPE transmission pan for Christmas along with a Ford Performance diff cover for my 2021 F150 5.0L Rocky Ridge K2. I used a LubeLocker gasket with the diff cover, very simple install. One detail though, if you use this or the Spicer diff cover (same thing except for logo's) use the factory bolts. The ones that come with the covers are real weak.

For the PPE pan you need to unbolt the trans from transmission mount for the 5.0L and lift it about an inch to get the old pan out. I ended up buying and using a new Ford gasket just in case my original was damaged. I also added a new filter and seal since the pan was off. Turned out good.

No I didn't take any pics with the cover off. However, I did siphon out as much trans fluid as I could before I took the plastic pan off, didn't get the transmission shower. LOL

I do have a pic of the old pan...

Been thinking of getting that trans pan along with a real dipstick and tube.
Will probably do this right at 50k along with a drain & fill with filter.
The 21 is my first auto trans truck and I think I want to keep it working.

TJ on the right side of the pan where it drops down is it possible to drill a hole to drain the existing fluid out? Or are there transmission components right there? I'm also going to install that same PPE pan and want to avoid the shower as well.

I just stuck in clear vinyl tubing through the full hole and syphoned as much out as I could. This worked for me.

Sorry to ping an old post. I'm curious if the new PPE pan is easier to remove than the OEM pan? I'm planning these same mods on my new 2024. Thanks.

No difference. It is not that bad of a job to remove the trans cross brace, just support the tail before you remove the cross brace. It can be done on the ground with jack stands but easier on a lift. Here, you can see on mine how it fits in relation to the cross brace and exhaust.

Very nice install. I am planning on doing the same with both my 2012 F-150 and my 2024 F-150. If you don’t mind me asking, how many miles do you have on your 21 F-150? How did your transmission oil look? Did you have any metal shavings in the filter?

I have a 24 XL 5.0L. I had my pan swapped out and a trans service at 4200 miles since I was getting my Whipple installed, and I wanted to start fresh across the drivetrain. Trans fluid looked okay and there was no debris or junk but a tiny bit of sludge/clutch material, as expected. I now have 9500 miles and the truck runs great and my shifting is perfect. I plan to service it again at 30K miles. It is not a hard job, just takes a little time and now will be a much cleaner/easier job with the PPE pan with drain bolt.

I have a 24” lariat with the 5.0 and it looks like there is plenty of room to access the rear bolts on the pan without removing anything. Ford must of knew this was a problem and changed a few things.
