I haven't had it happen, but my dad gets called about once every 6 months for his. He's got a 19 XLT. He waited until they were cheap and right before COVID hit to buy it. He didn't pay much of anything for it. At one point during COVID shortages, they offered to pay him more than he bought it for, but it's his retirement truck and he wants to die with it, so he said no.

I sold my 19' in 22' with 8k in profit. What was crazy is I had the 5.0 and I know I was burning oil. The same dealership that kept denying the issue purchased it from me ?. Those days are over.

In that case, I'd sell too. But, my dad's truck barely has 30k on it 5 years later, has all the options he wants and is a good truck. I'll probably inherit it one day.

Has anybody else here had their dealership make an extremely tempting offer to purchase your truck?

A couple days ago I dropped my truck off for some maintenance work. A couple hours after that I get a call from what I thought would have been the service department. It was actually the sales manager. They told me how they don't have enough newer used trucks and that they have quite a bit of new inventory. He continued and said they could definitely pay off my truck with some cash to spare.
Honestly at first I kind of laughed at him...like you have to be kidding me right!? I just purchased that truck in June of 24.

Anyways when I went to pick the truck up they had an offer sitting on the table for me. They would pay off the entire loan from Ford credit and the additional money would go towards a down payment for a new truck.

They called me again yesterday and I once again told them sorry I'm not interested and I just dumped a bunch of money in that truck. I figured if I told them I wanted a super duty for one hell of a price they would leave me alone. Nope. Without even having to use an x plan they already had the price considerably lower than MSRP. Honestly if I didn't just dump a bunch of money into my truck I would be in a Lariat Super Duty right now.

I told the sales manager you want my keypad right? ?????????

So what the hell is going on? Anybody know?
This is apparently a common ploy by ALL dealerships. I continually have to fight off the salespeople who still want my '19 Toyota Highlander V-6. I expect the local Ford dealer to approach me next.

Headed to the dealer tomorrow for a follow up. Was having a start issue. before i brought to them the dome light in my camper shell was working. got it back. The connector was unplugged and now it is not working. The power lock and 3rd break light is . They had it for 3 weeks.

Will see if they ask or say anything. But when i got my 2022 there were a lot more packages available it seemed. Now the Sport package is gone. My biggest regret was not getting a larger power inverter, but that is hardly worth, a trade in.

Just did a build new similar equipped with out sports package 63k I paid about 58K.

I wonder why I got a call a week after my last oil change from a sales guy from my dealership? Maybe the sales guy asked the oil change monkeys to keep an eye out for nice trucks and let him know?
I have my 21 Lariat 502A with only 35K Kilometers on it, I have the Ford Performance Offroad Blackput package that I know a dealership was adding 15K on top of MSRP for it added at the dealer.
My 4 year lease is up in July and he was offering 15K over my lease buyout.
No thanks, I have built my truck to the exact way I want, I haven't had a single issue with it since new.

Yep, did the same. Ordered a ‘22 Lariat, got 10k off, and I had a ‘19 Chevy coming off lease and dealer gave me 6.5K to turn the lease in with them. Crazy!

Dealers are different these days, it seems. I bought my F150 about 10 days ago from a dealer ~5 hours away (local guys weren't interested in coming down off MSRP). Did the deal over email/phone and traded in my '22 Silverado. They didn't even drive it when I traded it in. It was a solid truck, but still...

I got a form letter from my dealer saying they have a shortage of used trucks and to reach out if I am interested in selling it to them. No calls, texts, or emails, and I think the form letters are pretty common.

Out of curiosity I looked on their website and they only have two used F-150s - both 2017s, look like ex fleet vehicles. So, I guess they aren't lying about a shortage. 65 new ones on the lot.

With Carvana, Carmax and Auto Nation all buying as many cars as they can, the local dealers really can't compete and rely on trade-ins. Always get a buy figure from Carvana and Carmax before going to a dealer so you have real numbers when you negotiate.

Nothing new or unusual. Most of them do the same. Just another sales tactic to drum up trade-ins and sell you something new.
They always win and you always lose. It doesn't matter how attractive the offer looks.

You say it's a good offer but you didn't mention any numbers.

I always get tempted by the mail letter and email I get every month from my local dealer... But I never respond to them... See the post above about them always winning and me always losing.

New trucks are about to get really expensive.

Maybe buy the new truck now, then sell the old one in 60 days.

I'm in commercial truck sales, and the manufacturers have told us to expect a 15-25% price increase within days on new orders, for a USA assembled truck built in late May 2025 and moving forward.
