Looking to change the oem muffler to something a bit louder. Would like to keep the same tailpipe and tip. Does anyone know the inlet and outlet size of the current muffler ? Thanks

Been thinking about doing the same thing too as I’m not really interested in a full cat back system.

I’m sure someone has a video on YouTube of doing some thing similar that might get you the info you’re looking for.

Another aspect is deciding if you’re going to keep the resonator in place.

resonator will definitely be kept in place, seen too many videos where people complain about the drone when they take the res off. Just looking to change the muffler, don’t want anything obnoxious loud as I do like how quiet the truck is when cruising on the highway, want you to know it’s a v8 when I accelerate but quiet at cruise, not sure what muffler I’m going to select.

Same here...
I'm leaning towards a Flowmaster myself since having had several mustangs in the past and a fan of that chambered muffler sound.

But nothing to aggressive and part of the reason why I would stay with the single exhaust.

I used 3” in 3” resonator in place of factory and removed the muffler. Sounds amazing no drone. I have mean idle slight volume increase on normal acceleration but when you push it it opens up!

I used a vibrant ultra quiet resonator.

I am amazed at how good 5.0’s. sound with no mufflers.

I had the mufflers cut out of a mustang back in mid 1990s.

I remember it was under 100 bucks and the thing sounded great.

I chose the takeoff Raptor muffler and am actually very happy with it. Enough growl/volume was added to enjoy, but when I take it easy it's not so loud to completely piss off the family.

(video doesn't do it justice, actually much louder/deeper under throttle, but idle is quiet)

The Flowmaster FlowFX sounds really good.

Funny. I keep running into that one on videos and other posts lately.

I was only familiar with the American Thunder which I believe is a Super 40 & to loud for what I have in mind. Plus you have the dual tailpipes if you buy the system.

Was sort of thinking a Super 50 w/no resonator but just talk for now.

Nice to have resources these days to give a listen before you commit to something.

Plus that flowmaster cat back is stainless steel, for the same price as steel MBRP cat back...$479ish. The MBRP stainless is $789.

That flowmaster flow fx is the best deal going and sounds great.

I just went and measured my stock exhaust that I took off on Sunday. The inlet for the muffler is 2 3/4 inch O.D. and the outlet side is 3 inch I.D.
The first picture is inlet. Second is the outlet side measured at the end of the tailpipe. Third pic is of the muffler outlet.
Hope this helps answer your question!

Was that able to come apart without any cutting?

Yes. I took the exhaust off in two parts with no cutting involved. I had the front of the truck on ramps and had to use my floor jack with a couple bricks to lift the body up a bit to get the tailpipe over the rear axle. Wasn't all that bad.

I was thinking the 50 series delta flow, not many videos with the f150 but I hear one with the 5.3 Chevy.

Here’s one I found but from what it shows in the comment section he had an American Thunder-cat back system and replaced those mufflers with the 50 series Delta flow.

So not quite just a muffler swap. (ie; 2- tailpipes & resonator delete)
