Interesting because my ecoboost has the e85 sticker on the fuel door.
E85 or E15? Mine says E0-E15 or something similar around the filler hole. I am unaware of Flex Fuel being available on EcoBoost on the F-150, so it’s possible you just got the wrong sticker (weirder things have happened), but I’m prepared to be surprised by a Flex Fuel option suddenly showing up.

Ford only allows the plow package on V8 F-150s. You cannot get it with any other engine option, so you can’t get a warranty-safe plow option on any other engine. That’s basically the issue. To my knowledge, Ford has not yet explained their reasoning.
I have heard/read that having a plow on an ecoboost restricts airflow into the intercooler and could cause issues with the turbos overheating or failing.

In the manual on my 2020, is says specifically that E85 is not an option for my 3.5EB.

I can see the mandate for E85 being a reality in the next 7-10 years and don’t feel like replacing a perfectly good truck.

plus wanting the flexibility of a plow/winch on the front, I just didn’t care to have the intercooler from a turbo to deal with.

In my opinion, Ford could probably get rid of both the 3.3 and 5.0 now based on good reliability numbers of the newer generation turbo engines.

In my mind, offering only 4 choices... a 2.7 EcoBoost, 2.7 Powerboost, 3.5 Ecoboost, and 3.5 Powerboost would be an adequate enough selection, with 2.7 Ecoboost being the new base engine. A 2.7 Powerboost should be the next new engine.

The only thing I'm not sure of is how do you replace the 5.0 when I think it is the only engine for a snow plow option and a little better payload. My guess is the SuperDuty, which is probably a better choice for snow plowing anyway. As far as v8 sound goes...some will never want that sound to go away, but I am happier with a faster truck that has a quieter interior.
They will loose market share if/when they do. Theres a bunch that will never buy into the small engine/turbo thing.

Production or use in the F-150?

IIRC Ford has indicated the upcoming Mustang generation will be their last ICE Mustang. Speculation is that takes them to 2028-2029. I think we can probably assume that, absent some game changing external factors, Coyote production will not end until 2028-2029. Probably a tad after that to allow spares and crate engines. (that’s assuming Ford doesn’t surprise us and replace the 5.0 Coyote with one last hurrah larger displacement V8, but I really don’t expect that).

As for use in the F-150, I think that’s a bigger question. The 5.0 sells pretty well in my neck of the woods, but with Ford looking to trim money from ICE development, it does seem questionable they’ll continue *updating* the NA engines on the F-150. The 3.3 isn’t used in a lot of other applications, and the Coyote is reasonably youthful. So I wouldn’t expect them to update either engine much. The question then becomes how long they let those engines languish (like the poor 3.5 Cyclone in our Explorer) before they kill them off for hurting their CAFE numbers. Since there’s market factors leaning both ways (fleet reluctance for EcoBoosts, FlexFuel support, etc), my personal 2 cents are that we’ll see the Coyote stay an option on the F-150 through the end of Gen 14, but the odds drop to 60/40 for Gen 15. I am confident we won’t see it stay an option beyond when/if the Mustang drops it.

I don't see Ford continuing to offer a V8 in the F-150, Coyote or otherwise, *beyond* Gen 15 (let’s call it 2028-2029 but who knows) unless their competitors continue to offer one. V8s will clearly still be around on the Super Duties where it’s absolutely a mission requirement, but the days of the half-ton V8 were probably numbered regardless of electrification. We saw the same thing happen in the SUV and sedan market years ago, once the V6s or even I4s offered comparable performance, the V8s didn’t linger on long after power parity except in niche applications. Again, doesn’t mean the V8 itself is dead…I suspect we will be seeing Super Duty and larger vehicles with them the rest of our lives.

I’m in that pool of folks, every vehicle i currently own has a V8 (mustang, cutlass, F-150) and they have all treated me very well. So I would like to keep it that way.

I might think of my next truck to be a super duty if they get rid of the V8 option on our lineup.

My friend works at the Essex engine plant and says they are keeping the 5.0L at least till 2025-26.
awesome, I wonder if they’re planning for any more soft upgrades like they did with the CD, oil pump, cylinder liners and etc

When do you folks think Ford will end production of the 5.0 V8? I know Toyota had already ended their 5.7 and Ram is fixing to end their 5.7 Hemi.
I’m curious to know what you folks think..
Well Considering the mustang just went 5.0 again for it's next gen it'll at least be around for another Gen. Even then they just brought out a new 6.8 V8 so looks like Ford still thinks they are viable for a bit longer. I think GM is just waiting for Ford to make their move, always following.

Just an observation that Ford keeps fine tuning the coyote block, some people are saying it will give it more longevity that some of the less-refreshed blocks from other manufacturers (5.7 hemi and others).
