What is wrong about it? I've followed several car sites for years and have seen nothing about major issues related to cylinder deactivation anywhere. Our Acura has the 2nd Gen VCM (cylinder deactivation) from Honda and at 185k miles over 11 years it has had no issues.

My cousin's Silverado has it and he's experienced powertrain problems cause of it. My neighbor has a Ram 1500 with MDS and he's experienced problems with his powertrain as well.
The 5.7 Hemi's had more issues with their cams than MDS. Had 2 Ram's (2010 &2013 with 5.7's) and never had an issue with either and I drove them pretty hard.

i owned 2 Ram with 5.7L HEMI’s. always disabled the MDS by utilizing the gear selector thing. both drove like dreams as well (y)

Countless cases from Dodge and Chevy. My 2010 Ram ate cam and lifters because of it.

The 21 5.0 has been out for 3+ years now. I havent seen or heard anywhere of a CD related problem. Its a DOHC engine running a very different deactivation system that that of GM and Ram.

Additionally the same system has been tested before. Ford has a tiny little 1.5l turbo 3 cylinder they've been building for alot longer than that with the same Cylinder deactivation system. It has been applied in the bronco sport and escape (which is too much car for 180hp IMO). The ONLY problem Ive found related to Cylinder Deactivation on that engine is drone which doesnt happen anyways with factory exhaust on the 5.0.

Im not worried about it at all on my truck, but let me tell you I'm the first one to tell my buddy to tune his beautiful C7 corvette to get rid of AFM.

see that’s the thing.. 3 years is short term. we haven’t gotten to 6+ years down the road to know truly how reliable the current 5.0L V8 is.

I agree, but I think theres probably a good number approaching 100k by now and if the issue was truly something to be concerned about, we'd have someone come complaining onto the dark corners of the internet about it.

Here are some high mileage 21 5.0s for sale -> https://www.cars.com/shopping/resul...ck_type=all&year_max=&year_min=2021&zip=32413

Id feel ALOT less confident though if the 1.5 had a hint of an issue though.

I'm personally more worried about phasers on the 3.5 EB. Those were a nightmare on the 17-20.

I was in the market for a current gen 5.0 V8 until i did a little research and found out that Ford has adopted the cylinders deactivation on their trucks. Anyways, i was wanting to know if any permanent solutions have been discovered on disabling that cylinders deactivation??
"Adopted"?

No... they DIDN"T "adopt it".

They completely redesigned it, taking the lessons learned from the GM cylinder deactivation disaster of the past.

Just like how they completely redesigned their starters to handle the constant cycling of A.S.S.

If you (or anybody) is really worried about... take a look at it for yourself...

Yeah, well... when I stomp on the gas pedal in my RCSB 4x4 and my 5.0 goes from 23-MPG to 8-MPG and my 10-speed goes immediately from 10th gear to 3rd… the feeling I (and my passengers) get doesn't seem to relate much to "fuel conservation".

That's all I know....;)

If anyone is interested, I have an Livernois tuner, pretty much new. I got it two months ago it’s locked so it has to be sent back to Livernois to be unlocked. It comes with the windshield mount never used. That’s usually sold separately and all the wires and connectors , sell it for $360. Shipped.

it’s freaking BS how they charge like $400 just to “transfer” the license to another user. that’s price gouging if anyone asks me.

How so?

you buy this and they still have to start all over and build the tune for your ecm and send it to you same as buying a brand new one.

you might as well buy a new freaking unit then. no point in buying a used device when it’ll cost just as much as a new one in the end..
