You mean slamming it closed several times, with each attempt getting more forceful is NOT the right way to treat that latch? :D
Erroneous. This IS the way.

Haha I just installed a Builtright and was thinking the same thing: HOW CAN THIS BE SO HARD TO RE-latch??
I was going to blame Builtright but I looked at their mechanism and don’t see anyway it would affect latching…now I see it’s more a matter ofseat angle.

Still, I’ll add some grease to the plastic pull piece so it glides as easy as possible.

Overall a very easy install and I’m pleased how much room there is back there.

Raise the seat bottom first. It will then raise and tilt the seatback forward just enough to reach down from the top to get your finger on the tiny release catch nub. Then nearly rip the tip of your finger off attempting to release the catch for the fist time. After that it gets easier to unlatch it.

I recall I had just reached and pulled it with the closed end of a small 10mm or similar wrench. No need to lose fingers.

Me too. I stumbled across an extra 7/16" 6 1/2" long combo wrench. It must have somehow found its way from work into my garage. Strange mystery. It has worked perfectly the two times I've dropped the seat in the 10 months I've had the truck.
The 2 extra inches of length does make it easier to reach the release compared to Harbor Freight, Ace Hardware wrench or the like.

I will say I do like the BuiltRight gizmo, but again I've only dropped the seat twice. And I do like Porpoise Hork's piece. Well done, sir.
