If true Ford has discontinued it then because the Eco Boost engines used to have it at least in the Gen. 13 trucks.
yeah, I can’t speak of that. I had an 05, then I skipped to 21. The 21 and 23 were work trucks, I bought a 24 powerboost last June.

So sorry really can’t speak of the GEN 13

I feel like there are two conversations happening here.
1) fake engine noise that sounds like the engine to make it sound beefier.

2) the tiny speaker on the powerboost and lightning that makes a spaceship noise at under 20 MPH so pedestrians are aware the vehicle is moving in case it is in electric mode.

I have a PB, I can confirm it came with the pedestrian speaker which I promptly removed. I also see no evidence there is a second speaker for ‘performance’ sound and can confirm there is no engine noise being reproduced through the cabin sound system.

that power boost speaker also has a fake engine noise. It’s that what many considered be the George Jetson aircraft engine noise

I guess the original question is if the 2.7 had the ability to enable the fake engine sound. For example here is a clip of an example. It's the same sort of sound I heard on a new bronco I test drove.

It’s only on the power boost models 21 and up
part number NL3T-19J215-BB, it’s not present on non-power boost models.
There’s no need for it. There’s also no back up beep or Boeing when reversing with non-power boost models.
I think there's some confusion among the people on this topic. The OP is asking about synthetic sounds played on the inside of the vehicle to make the engine sound better to enhance the driving experience. The part number you mentioned above is for the pedestrian speaker which plays sounds outside the vehicle to increase pedestrian awareness.

This is an example of the fake engine noise the OP is referring to (Ecoboost Mustang in some sort of diagnostic mode):

On a side note about the pedestrian speaker: I'm not sure if Ford changed it for the 2024+ models but my Powerboost only plays the reverse chime. I have no "spaceship" or any sort of artificial noise outside the vehicle when traveling forwards.

Our 2025 Explorer ST 3.0 TT v6 absolutely has FENG (Fake Engine Noise Generator) which is v8 like sounds pumped through the cabin speakers.

Yeah I’m not sure when they changed, my dad had a 2015 Eco Boost and definitely on that one.

If's a noise w/ frequencies outlined by the g00berment. They made a ~100 page document outlining its requirements.

What's not in the document is the dump truck backup beeper which is the exact reason I've deleted both of mine.

Okay found this from ROBB1. I tired it and it didn't seem to make any difference. Oh well lol.
"The engine sound enhancement works similar to active noise cancelation. It suppresses certain engine notes and accentuates others in an attempt to replicate the sound of a V8. The F150 has no cabin mics for active noise, so the ACM uses calibration files that correspond to the installed engine to tell it what's its working with.

The only thing I can suggest is:
1. Make sure the sound enhancement is active in your as-built: ACM 727-01-01 xxxx xxxx 1x--

2. You can tinker with the various calibrations and see if you like one better than the default for your engine. You might like or it might sound like hell. Since Ford uses the same modules and similar software across multiple vehicle and engine combos, there are a bunch of calibration selections in the as-built:"

Is there any way I can tell if my 2.7 has the FENG? I'm not interested in changing it either way, I just would like to satisfy my curiosity. Thanks.

Honestly, I don't think any of the 2.7s have it. And if you don't have a Lariat your 100% don't have it.

I think the only way to know for sure if you cant tell by listening would be to download your As Built files from Motorcraft, and see what line 727-01-01 has (xxxx xxxx 0x would be for the sound off), or connect Forscan and see.

Edit: reviewed my Forscan notes, and the fake engine noise was enabled on my '23 3.5 (non PB) when I got it, and I disabled it.

My '24 Powerboost has the exterior noise (that is required for electric vehicles).

It does not have the interior engine sound, however. My '17 3.5 King Ranch had it. Made the cabin sound like there was a V8.
