My 2024 F-150 V6 eco boost is quite a bit louder than my 2018 was when the turbo kicks in (especially under load - my best guess). Sounds kind of like a turbine winding up. It’s actually a bit annoying when towing. Haven’t checked with the dealer yet and need to scan for codes first. Anyone have a similar experience?

My only comparison is to my 2011 with a gen 1 EB. My 2024 has noticably louder exhaust from the factory and the engine has a significantly different tone vs the 1st gen, which was higher pitched and more "buzzy" sounding. You could definitely tell that Ford wanted to downplay the V6 noise through heavy muffling and adding a resonator that year since it was the 1st year of the 3.5 in the trucks and they weren't sure if it would stick. My 2011 with a resonator delete was still quieter than my 2024 is with completely stock exhaust.

As far as turbo noise: You could hear the turbos in the old truck when you got on it and had the windows down but it was pretty quiet and with the mechanical waste gates it sounded more like a traditional turbo motor. I have noticed in the new truck I can occasionally hear the turbos spool up in the way you described when putting some load on the engine. I saw this happen quite a bit during a recent 11hr drive while towing. It's pretty interesting in the hybrid because in a lot of situations the electric motor will take some of the load first before spooling the turbos so during an acceleration event the truck will show little to no boost for a bit and once the HV battery gets low I'll hear the turbos spool up and see the boost gauge increase while holding the same rate of acceleration.

Long story short: what you are describing sounds normal based on my experience.

The only time I have ever heard the turbos on one of the EB engines was a loaner trucks with thr 2.7 in it. You could easily hear the turbos spooling on every single one of them. The turbos in my PB are quiet as can be, likely due to the silencers installed on the OEM intake piping. Same goes for the exhaust, don't hear anything there either.

My 23 3.5l eb i can hear the turbos. Not as much as my straight piped 6.0 PSD I used to have. But I can hear them a little. I very much enjoy it. I like hearing them. I didn't want to hear a high revving v8 though. Different strokes for different folks I reckon.

2025 PB here… I bought my truck April of this year. 3 months into owning it, I was commuting home from Atlanta, and decided to turn the radio off. I started going up a long hill at 80mph, as I loaded the engine down, I heard this very audible whine noise. I was caught off guard and then quickly realized it was the turbos. I watched my boost gauge and as I would lug the engine, keeping it in the same gear, as the turbo gauge climbed I could hear the corresponding turbo whine coming from the engine. Pretty cool sounding in my opinion. It’s definitely not annoying by any means and I can really only hear it if the radios is off and my AC isn’t blowing hard.

Funny enough I'd say my 25 has less turbo noise than my 22, which had less than my 18. All 2.7s. As mentioned before the exhaust is absolutely louder and has a different tone on the 25. I can even hear it at idle with the windows up and radio off.

Didn’t they remove the engine covers on 2024+?

Wondering if that makes it more noticeable?

2.7 hasn't had an engine cover since maybe 2017. It's been awhile. Ford did remove the under engine and under transmission splash shield/NVH covers in a spitefully cheap move but those are more for noise reflecting off the roadway.

Turbo spool on my 25 3.5 is way less noticeable than it was on my 19 3.5. Exhaust is louder on the 25.

anyone know why the 14th gen turbos are quieter than the 13th? I miss the low to mid rpm whistle under moderate throttle.

I would imagine it might be due to a turbo silencer ring or something of that nature. I wouldn’t mind hearing a little more turbo whine also on my ‘25.

The induction system has become more efficient over the years. With more efficient compression of the air comes less noise. At some point the number of vanes has changed too but I forget which year. Wastegates went electronic as well.

I don' t hear turbo wine on my 2024 3.5 EB (I always did with my Volvo turbos). I have the modified radiator cover that increases airflow into the intake plus a COB bracket to prevent the induction tube from curling its lower lip upward resulting in blockage of the intake under load. I have a buddy with a 2024 EB that tows a lot without the improved radiator cover or COB bracket, and you could see how the bottom of the inlet tube was deformed and stretched from being curled up. You would only benefit from doing these updates.

I went from a 23 2.7 to a 25 PB. Both trucks i put the AFE CAI and the turbos are definitely louder on the 2.7

Mmmm I love the sound, I wish they were a little bit louder - but not "oh that sounded expensive" loud. Literally one of the reasons I bought this truck and not a Tundra or Tacoma (and now they have turbos too!).
