It's a bit terrifying to consider that I'm sharing the road with drivers that only look where they are heading if the CMR reminds them to.

Again, I'm not advocating for removal. But I just don't consider the feature as what determines whether Bluecruise is dangerous or not.

A perfectly functioning CMR absolutely allows for someone to NOT be watching what is going on. And for well long enough for a Bluecruise snafu to require manual intervention.
Or put another way, the CMR isn't the safety net for Bluecruise that some might think. It certainly doesn't guarantee an idiot wouldn't take his eyes off the ball in a high risk moment.

If you believe that every driver is responsible and prudent, and would never, ever take thier eyes off the road or fail to be ready to react at any moment while using a level 2 autonomous driving system without the CMR, I've got some oceanfront property in Montana you might be interested in.

You think every driver is perfectly attentive. I do not. We will have to agree to disagree.

I believe that I just pointed out that the CMR doesn't prevent such folks from not paying attention.
It won't prevent them, but it will remind them to put their eyes back on the road when using the system. Again, that is my primary point of why disabling it is not a good idea.

FWIW, a recent report showed that Teslas had among the highest fatality rates per billion miles driven. Clearly FSD must be playing a role here. I generally feel that most autopilot systems actually REDUCE driver attention, so that when/if an intervention is needed, many drivers are not prepared to do so.

Yup. Making it easier for a driver to reduce thier attention will undoubtedly lead to more accidents.

That was precisely my point. Making it EASIER for drivers to NOT pay attention (disabling the nanny cam) will result in said drivers being more likely to NOT pay attention.

However, if the camera nanny barked at them when they were not paying attention, it would give them the opportunity to avoid what might be an opportunity for an accident.

I wasn't arguing about "freedoms" or "dealing with it". I was solely referring to the probability of accidents going up if the driver cam was disabled.

The issue with Tesla's system is Musk overhyped its hands-free capabilities and Tesla buyers believe him.
Tesla systems rely on cameras and not radar or lidar to calculate distance and speed.
Tesla stopped installing a front radar sensor back in 2021. Apparently, Musk REALLY wanted to simulate a human controlling the car by making it an all visual system with AI processing the images. They are 100% a camera only system.

Most people can barely handle the power of the higher performance EVs.
Instant torque is nice, but also dangerous for the desk jockey who "thinks" he can drive.
I work with a lot of people who own them. Flippin idiots.

Hey fellows.... I don't mind the discussion but you all kind of hijacked the thread. If you want to continue this subject, how about starting a new thread?

Just my thoughts....

I did it for a few people and my account got deactivated by Ford. I was lucky to get it back. I don't think anyone is going to take that risk. Ford has changed a lot of stuff in the past few months. PTS now shows little warnings in places like this one below when you pulled connected data on a vehicle. This is why I am not doing public VIN checks anymore.

Nothing you can do but wait. I've seen cases where an owner submits the case and it gets cleared in a few hours and others case where it takes days or weeks to clear.
