Most of my USB drives won't work. I have a chinesium special 8GB stick I use for all of my FDRS stuff. Samsungs don't work. I think it's syncs dated hardware as the drives work in TVs which have much newer hardware. Funny how they're all running on ARM SOCs from phones / tablets. Sync 4's hardware is almost 10 years old.

Sounds like is it giving you option to install the update via CAN since the USB method keeps failing. I would do it if it continues to fail with the USB.

Yes, very slow indeed. APIM, GWM, TCU and IPC can be done with USB to make the process faster, but when it fails, then CAN is the way to go. Just be happy it isn't the IPC. That one takes 6 hours.

Ironically I have a Samsung thumb drive that I have been using for both of the Powerboosts I have owned, and now the Mach-E.

I carry it in my left pocket everyday everywhere. Not to be mixed in with the 10 other thumb drives in the backpack.

So I don't think brand differentiation is the whole story.

Make/model/firmware.....?

I do know our vehicles can be picky about such things.

I personally would have to conclude that it isn't the physical media itself behind the failure.

But you aren't the only updater to be taunted with the scenario.

Have you labeled the stick? If so...needs to be short ...like Ford or Sync and exFat format
