I seem to have a fat boy Lariat. ??‍♂

502a, moonroof, max tow, lucked out and no deletions for the build period.

Edit: This was a 'I want that truck!' purchase, with not much research. I feel I got a good one, not knowing what I was buying.

So we have Apples to Apples an exact same truck, except you have a shorter wheelbase and no 'stated' Max Tow package.
I do have Max Tow and a longer wheelbase and I have a lower limit than you? Literally makes no sense. "Yah canI go ahead and get the Max Tow Package so I can put less in my truck? Thanks."
Almost seems like some of these are dart board results....
Best I can see is that every Powerboost has a GVWR of 7350lbs. period. Doesn’t matter the trim level or tow package. Consequently, everything counts against payload because the GVWR is immovable.

Apples to Apples with ONLY the extra foot of bed should be a 21# hit on the 157".

Door sticker says air pressure 36 psi but do the tires say max air 51?
Totally different discussions from different manufacturers.

Kinda was my point but I wasn’t very clear. Just like you said, increase tow #s yet reduce payload. On all the higher trim trucks we are limited by payload. It makes no sense to me why its even offered on higher trim trucks. It appears to me the net gain is actually a loss.
Payload and tow rating are different numbers for a reason. Sure, for most of our typical use cases, one affects our ability to tow more than the other, but there are situations out there where that assumption breaks down. If you were towing this thing around, you’d hit your towing capacity limit long before any payload issues:

I thought the 1371 payload on my truck was bad. ?
The PB is marketed for towing though so I can see them not caring about light payload if it can make up for it in towing.

Well I just went and looked and I'm at 1260. So I guess that's pretty low?
Could a lot of that be the Platinum 20-in tires and rims? That's usually a pretty fast way to lower your load limit
It's an "it adds up quickly" kind of thing. I'm assuming you have dual moon roof. I think I just bought a new '23 KR PB with short bed and 20's. 1440 payload w/o spray in liner (as I recall). Low, but manageable. Just.

So a Powerboost has a Max Tow rear axle even if you don't have Max Tow package?

Man I have seen a lot of conflicting information regarding that infamous 3/4" floating axle and the Powerboost.
I went way down this rabbit hole when we ordered max tow on the '18. There are two 9.75' axles. Max tow get one that is floating, and of course now the hub bolts on (via the bolt that keeps breaking). The "standard" 9.75 has splines that end in threads and you run a traditional axle nut over same. The max gives you bigger brakes too. Is the axle case section greater? dunno. I'm told same internal bearings...

You mean "WAS" marketing for towing. Now it's a pretty toy for those that want a truck to pose in. Actual towing? Ford's trying to discourage that w/a PB (IMO). refer to: no more tow mirrors, no more Max Taw, required sunroof on KR (limits payload), etc...

If I could have ordered a '23 (I even tried) I would certainly have gone 157" again. A bit unweildy, but a lot of usability comes in that foot.

Exactly.

In the tow guides, Ford defines payload as GVWR- curb weight.

I think regardless of payload or tow packages one has to be realistic about what you're hauling. I've never once been pulled over in a 1/2 ton without trailer because I was thought to be over weight. I've had many a truck in my younger days all Sanford and Son'd up and no one bat an eye, even in northern NJ where every tiny town has a bored and well staffed police department.

On the other hand, I would not make a habit of towing a large TT with a 1/2 ton because it's a lot for the truck. While it may be fine for a short trip, mountain passes and canyon bridges will overwhelm your brakes or blow you over so fast you won't know what hit you. Bottom line for me, I'd happily be truck overloaded with no or a small trailer than pushing the upper limits of my truck to get the payload numbers to jibe with a big trailer.
