Why Ford has this computer based sensor system for the passenger air bag being On or Off what was so wrong with an ON/OFF button?!

Most manufacturers use similar setup. Likely due to the fact that many will forget to turn the airbags on before a crash.

Hrm, I'd never expected to hear someone complain about a system that works 100% as it should with no need of input from the driver. What's your complaint about it? I'm guessing it's something you've failed to address with forscan?

Having owned a bunch of vehicles in the past with ON/OFF buttons I never once turned the option off. With my 2021 F150 I had and still have computer related failures. I guess the younger folks love auto pilot and other useless options. For me, I have never used cruise control. I like to control my rides. Call me old fashion.

I would call ya old fashioned, but you're buying modern tech vs the horse and buggy. Cruise control is great, it keeps inattentive people slowing up traffic ~15 mph because they don't realize that more throttle is needed to maintain speed as elevation increases. Power steering, AC, power windows, powered seats, digital maps / navigation -- you're likely enjoying most of the modern creature comforts while obstructing traffic :ROFLMAO:

Wait. You have literally owned vehicles where you could manually turn the passenger airbag on/off? Maybe I have as well and just never noticed it, but I cant think of a vehicle I have owned that was built this century where the vehicle didn’t auto detect if a person was sitting in the passenger seat and thereby turn the airbag on/off.

The miata is one I can think of. Required the key to be inserted and the airbag would be turned on/off with a key rotation.

I do recall some cars with that option now, but can’t recall when it phased out

I'm sure each MFG did it when they had the tech to make it automatic. Airbags when released were great, right up until they started breaking necks. Then they started depowering them, now their firing is based on weight. Hell the RCS now fires bags based on conditions instead of firing all of them.

Except it doesn’t work 100% as it should. I had an accident a couple weeks ago. Fell asleep at the wheel and hit a tree at 15-20mph. It was a frontal collision and I had no passengers. All air bags deployed, including passenger and side curtains.

The airbag was 'off' either way. The key interrupt would tell the system to turn the bag off, just as the seat sensor does. It wasn't an actual physical disconnect. You could ask ford about it but the crickets are already sounding.

Key to turn off airbag was common until maybe 2005 or so. Might be even later than that.
