" While I do not, in any way shape or form, defend this driver ..."I understand the desire, but don't risk taking years away from my family so you can get a few more minutes with yours. There is a reason ambulances don't drive like that. They don't make high risk maneuvers to get around people. Yes they have the benefit of sirens; lights; and the law, and social acceptance, for people to get out of their way. But even with all that, some lives would be saved if they drove like a-holes and made it to a trauma center sooner. But how many more lives would be lost or negatively altered by accidents they would cause? If I'm in that situation I will drive faster and more aggressive I'm sure, but while also not drive in such a way that appears I am actively trying to get in a wreck like this guy was. Unless of course I get all emotional and make a mistake, since I'm human. Maybe that was what happened here, but in no way can it be looked back at in hindsight with any kind of approval.
