I understand the desire, but don't risk taking years away from my family so you can get a few more minutes with yours. There is a reason ambulances don't drive like that. They don't make high risk maneuvers to get around people. Yes they have the benefit of sirens; lights; and the law, and social acceptance, for people to get out of their way. But even with all that, some lives would be saved if they drove like a-holes and made it to a trauma center sooner. But how many more lives would be lost or negatively altered by accidents they would cause? If I'm in that situation I will drive faster and more aggressive I'm sure, but while also not drive in such a way that appears I am actively trying to get in a wreck like this guy was. Unless of course I get all emotional and make a mistake, since I'm human. Maybe that was what happened here, but in no way can it be looked back at in hindsight with any kind of approval.

Title XXIII
MOTOR VEHICLES
Chapter 316
STATE UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL
View Entire Chapter
316.081 Driving on right side of roadway; exceptions.—
(3) On a road, street, or highway having two or more lanes allowing movement in the same direction, a driver may not continue to operate a motor vehicle in the furthermost left-hand lane if the driver knows or reasonably should know that he or she is being overtaken in that lane from the rear by a motor vehicle traveling at a higher rate of speed. This subsection does not apply to drivers operating a vehicle that is overtaking another vehicle proceeding in the same direction, or is preparing for a left turn at an intersection.
5) A violation of this section is a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a moving violation as provided in chapter 318.

It is a moving violation to drive slower than the flow of traffic in the left lane for an extended period of time.

Truck restrictions are posted for the sections of road where they apply. When posted trucks must remain in the middle lane when possible.

Our ambulance drivers use the emergency lane. They're just not doing abrupt maneuvers and are running code. They also drive against traffic on city streets. They'll use both right and left hand turning lanes to cross intersections. Some municipalities allow public transport to use emergency lanes for travel as well.

I didn't look at the tags of the other vehicles, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were TN or AL -- they're always camping our left lanes here locked to the speed limit or under.

Are the two express lanes on the other side of the guard rail considered part of the highway flowing in the same direction? If yes, then the truck is not in the “leftmost” lane.

No. The leftmost lane doesn't include HOV or other special guarded roadways.

Gonna depend on how they wrote the statutory code defining a “highway”

Depends on the person writing the ticket knowledge of the law at a given time. They won't argue laws on the side of the highway and may yield another ticket for something unrelated.

Don't argue with the highway pirates. They've already prevented all other crimes and have resorted to highway robbery to justify their existence :ROFLMAO:

The number of people who don’t know how to STFU after giving there Name, DOB, and Address blows my mind.

Doesn’t matter if you’re right and the officer is wrong, it matters what the judge thinks.

I was just finding the applicable statutes for left lane vehicle operations and truck restrictions. I didn’t see express lanes mentioned but they are by design access restricted and wouldn’t apply imo.

Right, they get exceptions for normal traffic rules, but they do all of those things under control, with an emphasis on making sure other drivers know they are there, and the tools (lights/sirens) and social acceptance to do so. This guy almost gave that sedan a heart attack suddenly passing on the right on the shoulder with an approaching guardrail.

As a born and raised Miamian, this is very common here. I am so glad my daily commute is 2 miles to work, and two miles back home and I do not need to get on the highway. Even like that, just this morning I had some lady completely ignore a yield sign coming out of a round-about and pulled in front of me without even looking to see if there was a car coming. I horn-checked her as I put my front bumper within 6" of her rear bumper and scared the sh*t out of her, and then she has the audacity to start screaming at me through her side-view mirror and giving me the finger as if I did something wrong.
