Anyone make the switch? Currently have a 2021 doublecab with a long bed. Runs good, paid off, just a little cramped but honestly I deal with it. Got about $7k off MSRP on a 2024 Lariat which I ordered back in June. Now I'm hesitating and my wife is telling me to keep the Taco. I gotta be honest it's been hard to give up the Taco. In the 3 years that I've had it, it's been great. No issues and I keep reading about people passing 300k with no issues and regular maintenance. I always wanted an F150 but is it a dumb move to make and risk getting a problematic Ford and constant dealer visit?

The 940 lb payload capacity in my Tacoma is what's really pissing me off. I don't haul often, but when I do I bottom it out even with 5 people and a few shopping carts full from Costco. My Mazda Cx5 has an 850 lbs payload capacity. I find that absolutely wild that this "truck" can only hold 90 more pounds than my dinky mini SUV.

Also, dealer is giving me $31k for the Tacoma, I bought it for $37.5. Not bad for 3 years of use.
If you like the truck and want to be able to load more in the bed just do some air bags in the rear

If you look at things like copart, it's amazing the number of F150's at 180,000-250,000 that finally met their auction life status.

The 3.5 Ecoboost forum isn't nearly as congested as this forum, but there are plenty of long time members that are running around in their 2011 or 2012 Ecoboost with 200,000 to 300,000 miles. And lots of knowledge of that generation as well.

Fords have their warts, no doubt. But they build an array of good engines that can give you many years of service.

As for the Taco, my daughter in law would have nothing but a Tacoma when her husband was looking for her. He found her a 2017 that was just beyond the 3/36 mark. They might be well engineered but we couldn't get her to drive it until my sons F150 XLT 2.7 needed fuel. She'd drive her Tacoma the next day while he got the F150 filled up.
She never admitted that she found it boring, but that is what he would say when she wasn't listening. ?
I drove a gen 1 Eco to right at 200K. Put another 65K on a 2019 Eco before I got crunched during Covid and no trucks to be found. I am
Very happy I found my PB even though admittedly I was not 100% sure what I was buying…but new trucks were moving fast as I missed 2 before I snagged this one.

There are and have been some issues with PB. The small percent of those issues have been HEAVILY voiced on many forums. Kind of like mainstream media. Small percent of population that have a large platform.

Having said all that…the comparison is apples and oranges. Two entirely different animals. You can ride in a Taco…or you can have the whole Fiesta. Good luck! ?

You leave me no choice but to declare my own personal opinion. (not exactly the first time)

A fully dolled up Powerboost IS the bar for 1/2 ton pickup trucks. And I'm surprised that it hasn't needed a version 2 to hold on to that mantle.

I'm not saying that there aren't many fine trucks available from multiple manufacturers. But somebody needs to step up and build a better Powerboost, if you know what I mean. Even if it's Ford.

I prefer the F-150 community a bit more. Y'all are more mature, more helpful, and less insecure about your choices.
Traded my first Tacoma for my first f150 and had a similar observation

Yeah Im 100% with you on payload. A truck has to haul first and foremost. 1800lbs is the baseline with a short bed. I have very confidently had 500lbs over payload in my f150 and it had about an inch of negative rake. 2300lbs is respectable.

I just picked up a CX50 and was impressed with the 850lbs payload given the size. I considered a ranger and last gen tacoma. Both had bad rear space for rear facing carseats compared to the cx50, but the tacoma in particular was pathetic in power, efficiency and drum brakes before even talking about price bs.

I went from a 2nd gen Tacoma to a F150 because I wasn’t impressed with the new Tundra.

Toyota has been forced to really up their game as of late leaving them vulnerable in having to use "modern" automotive tech because customers pretty much demand it. Toyo's old strategy of basically watching the troubles of everyone else and moving appropriately is no longer relevant for today, so they've got quite a few new motors and drivetrain combinations to compete for relevancy. The teething issues now puts them on par with others in this space. Granted the whole recalling of all of the Tundras due to motor issues is a huge oof. RAM too is having lots of issues with their new found push of turbo 6s.

Ford has at least been smart in their push of tech and moving to boosted motors early. That gives them a clear edge for current generations of vehicles where the 3.5 is now a gen 3 motor and its lack of issues shows how mature of a platform it is. The only straggler left is GM, but the age of their V8s is starting to show. To their credit they've wrung out just about everything that can be had from a pushrod motor, but emissions and economy standards are forcing their hand.

The PB needs some real competition already though as ford just resting on gen 1 isn't enough. I was quite surprised to find the 'new' 25 expedition not have the hybrid option -- not even a 'coming soon' mention. Huge fail on their part.

i had taco's.. before they were just toyotas.. my '92 was the best of all of them. it lost 5th gear.. at 30k. they warrantied me a new fifth gear and a bearing or two. my last one was a 4.0 that had an intake rattling on start up. i have had two f150s one slt and one tahoe. i agree the eights of gm are no way to go if in town driving is most of what you do.. my slt was an '18 and had exceptional paint and build. and i say as i also have had four mercedes parked next to my trucks.. my first ford had five oil pan gaskets.. this '22 is sweet so far. only recall worked on it. my tahoe is a '23 bought in jan of this year. solid. ford seats are better.. otherwise i go gm. gas is cheap. gm build is a little better

I had a 2011 Tacoma TRD Sport Double Cab Long Bed. I am now on my third F150. I can't imagine going back to a Tacoma now.

I did look at a Tundra this time around but it really just brought to light how Toyota doesn't really care to keep up with Ford/Ram/GM.

Any issues with the truck that you had to go back to the dealer for in the time that you owned it? I have one toddler and a baby on the way, don't have much time or patience for dealership warranty visits right now.
Not a one. The only thing I did have done was the wiring harness recall when I dropped it off for normal oil change.

With that said I have driven it less than 5500 miles and often maybe once a week, so I am not hard on it and really still breaking it in.

My only wish was they dropped the antiquated over engineered shifter and just went with a push button or rotary for ease of using the work surface. Nit piking only.

My best friend has a 2013 tacoma double cab with 150k on it. All it has ever needed is general maintenance which is pretty nice. But I would never own one because to me it's a very cramped riding position, my knees always feel like they are pushed up. It's ok for short distance, but terrible for long distance. It's his wife's truck, she loves it and she thinks my truck is way too big, Screw, long bed, but I love the spacious feeling in my F150. Just my 2 cents.

I made the switch. There are pros and cons. Pros are more room, better capability, much faster and easier switching into 4hi and 4lo, lots of drive modes, way better infotainment, more comfort, and more power without losing any mpg. Cons are harder to park and maneuver, handles like a yacht, slightly less active modding community, no manual transmission available.

My Tacoma had a leaky timing cover that required a recall and engine out repair, body mount squeak, windshield wipers never wiped smoothly, and really stupid gear ratios in the transmission. I narrowly avoided the rear axle recall where the rear wheels would fall off.

I only have 1400 mi on my F-150 so far, but nothing has cropped up except the PCV valve making duck noises, but I think that is normal. First oil change was normal apart from some excess copper, so we'll see ...

I prefer the F-150 community a bit more. Y'all are more mature, more helpful, and less insecure about your choices.

Perfect truck for me would be a Ranger-sized F-150. Same design, just shrink the dimensions 10%. I don't like the current Ranger design at all. Way too many superfluous curves. I'm not a big dude, so I don't need a mile of elbow room. I'd rather park it easier. But being able to see over Tacomas and 4Runners is nice though.
100%!!! This forum is a thousand times better than tacomaworld. A lot of the guys on there are total d-bags!! Lol

200k miles for a late teens, early 20's F150 sounds like a lot. 300k
Quick google search says otherwise. High mileage F-150’s pretty normal.
