Day 1 - dealer had truck all day
Dealer: “yeah we need to reprogram the modules”
Me: did you check the TCU? I think it’s bad.
Dealer: we need to reprogram first
Day 2:
Dealer: after being on phone with ford for half the day, we are going to order new TCU. Be here in 7-10 days.

I will say they did give me a brand new expedition to drive, so that’s a plus!

Folks. Just stumbled across this thread since I have some of the symptoms discussed here. My FP stops working randomly and diagnostics show no cell service (3G on hotspot option). I do a reset on the Sync screen and I get connected again. Any pointers?

Hope all is well, I forgot to follow up with you but the icons have been green until last week when this started again.....so I got three months of this working correctly, my fix this time was to unplug and reinstall plug on the TCU, the middle plug....same as before. Is this just a normal thing to do every 2-3 months? Is TCU locking up?

It shouldn't, but no way to really predict it how often it happens. I disconnect my battery from the truck for 20+ minutes every 1-2 months just for the hell of it.

Brilliant!!! So what I am understanding through my many hours of reading is that these new trucks are so full of electronics, that pulling power once in a while clears any stuck/locked modules including TCU….like a network reboot at home?

Exactly right. GWM is another one that can get hung up in a funky state and cause weird quirks.

Absolutely a great way to look at it.

Clear the cache
Force stop the executables
Break any unintended software loop or hang.

There's as many as 45 individual modules operating as a symphony in your Gen14. Mind boggling when you consider there are like 7 modules in your Gen 12. That's a busy network with a lot of handshaking and conditional code at play.

You are understanding that correct, but don't be mistaken, this is Ford. You don't have to do that to other advanced vehicles like Tesla or Rivian. You are having to do this because it is Ford, not truly because it is advanced, you know kind of like Windows vs Apple.

I'll admit that non legacy auto makers are better at software and technology. But we have yet to see them build anything that can replace an American pickup truck. You know, the TRUCK part of being a truck. ?

Testing Settings > Enable Connectivity Icons.
