With all the stories of people getting updates and it screwing up stuff on their truck, why should I allow these? My truck is perfectly fine as it is. What's the point of potentially screwing it up?

Has it improved anything?
I guess I’m kind of confused by the nature your question.
If the updates haven’t caused any issues & I’m not complaining about any issues, then everything must be fine. If everything is fine, what would there be to improve?

I've seen a lot of posts about problems with updates. You said it hasn't caused problems. But, if it hasn't been negative, what positives has it brought?

If it didn't bring negatives, that's good. But if it didn't improve anything, what was the point of doing it? If you're making a bad tally for each person it messed something up for, I haven't seen too many tallies to the positives.

I guess I'm asking what the positives are, and why should I potentially allow it to mess stuff up.

OK, I will chime in, I have it turned off. However. when you do that it will annoy the crap out of you every time you start the truck asking for permission to update.

they will beat you down like a rented mule until you concede. !!

Will it do it even if you're not connected to wi-fi? I was under the impression it needed wi-fi.

People generally don’t say anything when something goes the way it’s supposed to. I imagine there are many many more owners who’ve had multiple updates with no issues compared to owners who have had problems.

On my 2023 I think one of the first updates I received gave me the option to run CarPlay with a full screen view instead of 1/3 of the screen being Sync stuff. In general the connection between my phone and head unit has improved with updates, but it still isn’t perfect.

Thank you.

I just don't see the point if the response to my question is "Well, it didn't mess up." If it didn't improve anything, what was the point?

My 2022 has received at least 17 OTA updates I've documented to date. Never any adverse effects or issues that I can perceive. No OTA update has ever messed with any of the many popular FORScan feature mods I've implemented.

Though I can't recall specifics at the moment I'm sure at least a few of those OTA updates have brought or allowed feature improvements I have noticed and appreciated at the time. The rest I assume (yeah, that word) have provided unnoticed increased functionality or system robustness.

YMMV but I've no reason to disable OTA updates, I'm happy to have a system that provides at least some ongoing improvements, even if not obvious to me, without dealer intervention.

Because fixing things to prevent potential issues in the future isn’t a bad thing.

As a side note, I hate the way software development works most of the time. Something is released with know problems and they’re fixed later. It seems like EVERY software developer is doing this.

I guess as a counterpoint: At one point in time, updates weren’t even possible (or weren’t something an owner could do), so when a product shipped it either worked as expected or it had problems for the entire time you owned it.

My '22 truck was a year old when I bought it 14 months ago and I don't know if it ever had an update. I have accept updates turned on, but have never seen a notice of one. How could I tell if it did/didn't get an update? Everything works great and I'm truly impressed with how it drives and shifts, so I've not been too concerned.
