Man! Brothers from different mothers! You shoulda heard the wailing and moaning back in ‘94 when I was forced to accept power windows in my new ‘94 GMC K1500!

I was, however, able to get it with a five speed manual transmission. Sold it in 2922 when the engine gave clear signs of impending mortality and replaced it with a new ‘22 F150 PB XLT 302a.
I love the new Ford, but man, vehicles these days have more bells and whistles than Santa’s sleigh.
The more shit on it, the more that can break.

Some of the things people worry about on here absolutely amazes me.

Well you did choose 302A on purpose?
A package that is literally bells&whistles for the XLT trim. ?

Not knocking anyone who does so since that package has long transformed the XLT into the value equation sweet spot for the 1/2 ton pick up truck world.

Yeah, I figured "in for a penny, in for a pound". If I can't have manual wind windows, I might as well get adaptive cruise control and SiriusXM too.
I've slooowly allowed myself to be dragged kicking and screaming into the early 21st century. I'm a bit of a retro dinosaur I guess. Although I am looking into upgrading from an iphone12 pro to an iphone16 pro.
It's funny since my career was spent in the highest of high tech - supercomputers - working on developing the technology for two or more generations in the future.
Go figger. Guess I'm just a bundle of contradictions ... but aren't we all?

I still have a Galaxy Note 9.

I hate adaptive cruise. How do you like that crap?

I don't miss all the tech in the Powerboost and Mach-E when I'm in the Miata or Porsche. But when I have either gokart in cruise control, it is a bit disappointing that it's not Adaptive.

Fortunately they aren't exactly my long stint weapons, but rather the scratch for an itch on a perfect day.

Ya, I don't understand why anyone likes adaptive cruise.

But I also have no idea why anyone wants the vehicle to drive for them. I like driving.

It's not really that difficult to understand. If someone is desiring cruise control, it's even nicer knowing that you aren't going to get too close if you are cruising at 3mph more than the vehicle in front of you.

Adapting to the speed of the obstacle in front of you is both reassuring and often graceful for occasional/short-term speed adjustment.

I have feet for that.

But that wasn't your question.

You said you couldn't understand why ANYONE would like Adaptive Cruise.
I simply answered the question why some do.

I wouldn’t go out and buy a vehicle just because it had ACC, or conversely wouldn’t buy a vehicle because it doesn’t have it. That being said, I rather like the feature on my F-150. The proof of that lies in the fact that I miss the adaptive nature of ACC when I’m driving some other vehicle that doesn’t have it.
As I noted earlier, I am a retro dinosaur, generally preferring older, proven technologies to the ‘latest and greatest thing’. Typically that means that I’m slow to adopt new technologies, and tend to pick and choose the ones of greatest interest to me. In the case of ACC, I didn’t explicitly choose it … it came along with the truck I wanted, but having fallen into it more-or-less by accident, I rather like it.
I am by no means a “technology for technology’s sake because technology is wonderful’ kinda guy. And yes, there are very often tradeoffs, and it is often the case that technology doesn’t work the way we think it should and/or can be fragile. I keep my eyes wide open to the drawbacks.

So do I. Well, one.

Anyway ... I'm a very observant driver, but my ACC has actually saved my arse a few times. All it takes is a second or two of distraction and you can find yourself in a mess.
