While leaving my works parking garage, I accelerated to merge into traffic and transmission shifted very harshly and the rpms spun like it was in neutral and then slammed into 8th gear. I was going maybe 15 mph and the trans was stuck in 8th gear. So I had no power and limped the truck onto a side street and put on the hazards.

I called the dealer and they were great and got me connected to Ford towing service, since I am out of factory warranty but do have PremiumCare that Ford gave me after my trans was replaced at 12k miles. Anyways, Dealer asked if I could shift into neutral for the tow truck. I tried and could shift into neutral. I shifted back into Drive and got a 1st gear indicator. I drove about 4 blocks to a better, wider street and only had 1st and 2nd gear. I kept the speeds to 20mph or so. And just as I was thinking that maybe I could limp it home the transmission felt like it completely deleted itself. It shifted rapidly from 2-8-2-8-2 and made horrible sounds like metal pieces being ground to bits while the truck lurched and shuttered. I immediately pulled over and put it in park.

then I waited two hours for the tow truck. Tow truck driver couldn’t get the shifter to shift out of park. Pressing the M button worked to get the trans into Neutral.

So looks like this truck will go through two transmissions with barely over 36k miles.

I don’t tow or race around with the truck. I drive to work and home, occasionally some mild off road trails for camping or mtn biking.

Not really feeling it from Ford anymore.

What year and engine do you have? I see the Lariat and your profile doesn't reveal that info. Just curious since I am back in a Ford after decades with GM pickups. I've followed the postings of the 10R80 issues here on the Forum and the joint venture with GM to develop and produce the same transmission really mystifies me.

Just curious, was the second transmission exhibiting any issues prior to this catastrophic failure? I hope they get your truck back in service quickly.

Damn. I had my transmission replaced at under 20,000 miles, and every time I'm towing our travel trailer, I'm crossing my fingers that the thing holds up. Reminds me of the debacle with the Focus and how Ford never took any action to make things right. The 10R80 transmission is a POS. Hope you get back on the road soon.

Well,.. around $5k of parts in the garage.
I'm having buyers remorse and I don't even have the truck yet. Has anyone got 200K miles out a 10R80 ??

Beats me, but I couldn't get 200k out of 2005 transmission, so this one won't be any different if I don't get that out of it.

Mine didn’t even last 12,000 miles before it was replaced. I have just over 20,000 miles on it now and it still makes weird noises sometimes especially when towing a travel trailer that weighs less than 5000 pounds.

I've bought six Jeeps, All new. I've run them all for over 200k miles. My current 2015 Rubicon Hardrock has over 210K. Original clutch, trans has never had an issue, original ball joints, axles, u-joints. The list goes on. Incredibly reliable. And I run 35" tires. I'm thinking that going with Ford is a mistake.

Geez, you're on a forum, you're generally not going to hear stories of how their transmission hasn't caused any problem. As just one example of countless, the transmission in my '24 has caused no trouble.

Mine hasn't been troublesome, just quirky. But, again, the newest vehicle I've personally driven regularly before this is a beat to crap 2011 Crown Vic cop car. The idea of a transmission "learning" is foreign to me.

so do some research on this
I pretty much figured out the transmission problem by 23. Assuming you didn’t buy a 21 or a 22 should be good very few transmission problems out of 24 models
