How much does the navigation subscription come into play for the speed limit display on the instrument cluster? I was led to believe it was the forward camera doing most of it but mine changes to the correct speed limit when no signs are around.

I really like having the current speed limit displayed because Google Maps does an awful job of it and it only displays speed limits for me when I actually have a route going.

I also want to know if the speed that's displayed on the mph is coming from any connected services. I only use android auto and it's maps. I never ever use ford's maps. I don't mind the 80 bucks but it would be nice to know what I'm getting. Or losing if I don't pay. Remote start? Data for ford pass?

Speed on dash? That comes from combination of Ford GPS data and camera reading signs. The Ford GPS sign data is no different with or without a subscription. Mine is wrong daily on my street and connecting street until it sees a sign. No different than it was with a subscription.

Where does my speed info come from? When I pass a new speed zone I know it's not coming from the camera. I regularly pass a zone where the speed changes and it's not coming from the cameras. Its definitely GPS.

The factory setting is GPS based. However, you can change it via Forscan to use the windshield camera to detect speed limit signs. It's not perfect, but I have used it for a year or so and have found it more accurate that the factory setting.

I know for sure that my camera does not detect a signs. I have a 8 lane highway in my city. There is a place where it changes speed. I had a truck to the right of me. The speed sign was blocked by the truck as I passed it. My speed changed. That software that handles it. Is it ford's navigation or Google? My open pilot software uses the speed displayed to speed up or slow down. I haven't set anything in the settings in the sync settings to use speed sign recognition. Open pilot sets its speed by what is displayed on my speedometer. If it's gps it still has to be tied to software. Google/android or ford navigation? I only use android auto and it's maps. Flawless integration with my phone and sync. Then occasionally I get a notification that there is a stalled car or police or road issues ahead. It then asked if I still see it. That notification is using my input to tell Google that the stalled car is there or no longer there. My camera is not recognizing speed signs.

Speed signs are unrelated to subscription services. My last 2 cars had this feature and I never extended the original data plans that came with the car (first 3 months were free). They are also unrelated to the cameras on the vehicle. There are built-in GPS systems independent of "paid services", which is frightening to think about and a reminder that most of the services you pay for are just fluffy add-on bulldooky.

Right you just have to just pay for something that you have on your truck I guess $80,000 for a truck is not enough for Ford !!

we have had Google make a handful of really erroneous routings that resulted in significant backtracking and hours of delay.

well, I have never had apple try to divert me more than 2000 miles out of the way on a cross-town trip, nor google on an in-stte trip go out of the way by more than, well, the Atlantic, which it told me to swim!

Mapquest was a piker; it didn't ask any more than that I apparently take a running start, knock down the barriers, fly across a river near downtown Nashville on momentum, and land on the other side . . . but at lest it told me where the Dennys were on the way, in the days of the $2.99 grand slam . . .

I don't pay but I have built in navigation that I don't think is option anymore. I tell truck "navigate to Texas Roadhouse" for example and I get a list and off I go. No subscription required unless it is a brand new business then I just voice navigate by speaking address.
