I use android auto that has maps. I open maps on my phone and ender a address or a point of intrest. Select start and the whole navigation populates to my center screen. Android auto and my truck is as one.
What advantage would I have renewing the navigation on my truck. Im not trying to be smug. I never use the nav app from ford so I know very little. Are there other features I w will lose if I don't upgrade? I really don't know whats connected to the navigation subscription.

I find the OE nav convenient for my purposes, the original 3-year 'connected' service was due to expire 06/09/2025.

I didn't care to experiment to see what might be lost without the 'connected' subscription, just wanted to continue to use and enjoy my truck exactly as I have been for the last 3 years.

I ordered the renewal online ~2 weeks before the expiration date, my CC wasn't charged until the 9th, no interruption / no overlap, $84.32 with tax ($7.03/month).

The cost is petty change in my annual budget.

For other folks the situation may be different ..... no worries! :)

Not trying to be a jerk, just curious: why paying for OEM navigation when you have two (or more) free - and many says superior - options? What advantage do you have in the OEM navigation that you cannot get from the free ones?

So long as we are doing multi thousand mile RV trips, I'll keep the subscription. AA doesn't do trailer safe routing but RV Trip Wizard, (which uses AA?) supposedly does.

We've been on Forest Service Trails that AA had no idea of.

None of the 3 are perfect as to routing but NAV will work, when the others have no signal.

Well Ford was serious. Not only did they take away navigation but they also killed the Ford app on my phone.

Mine is an iPhone 16 and I don't use CarPlay.

Not a jerk question at all, we just have different needs and approaches for meeting them.

Phone-based options aren't "free", they require paying for a high-bandwidth data plan which I don't have or need for anything else. In my case, all of my phone needs are met with a dirt-cheap long-grandfathered AT&T 4GB data plan with unlimited text and voice (perfectly adequate for my phone-surfing habits). Perhaps atypical but for this olde phart the phone is for communications and occasional weather / news / email checking / pics.

No particular advantage to the Ford connect subscription other than
  • It's much less expensive than a new phone plan (or Ford hotspot plan) would be for me
  • Provides more consistent performance in remote areas where I camp
  • It's KISS to use
  • it meets my needs
So, for my lifestyle, it's a good value. As I said in my OP .... for other folks the situation may be different ..... no worries! :)

HA! I am doing the same at the end of the year. It has worked great for me so I am rolling with it. I keep a trusty Garmin as a back up that I used regularly with the DVD based Toyota nav, but have never even thought about needing it in this Ford.

Not to mention that those 0% interest payments are ending so we have some extra cash anyway. :)

Hmmm, I've got an old Garmin Nuvi 2595 with lifetime maps that I keep updated for use in the 2005 XLT. I put a fresh battery in that one a few years ago. I suppose I should toss it in the 2022 Lariat for backup on camping trips, just never thought of it!

Are you telling me you don’t have a smart phone that you’re looking as your entering a store from a parking lot and get pissed when I honk at you to pay attention ? ???

I only have a smart phone now because my Palm Pilot died

?

Not a chance in hell, I'll not be caught buried in my phone unless I'm seated somewhere other than in a vehicle I'm driving. Olde Skool for sure.

 (y)
