Kinda skipped though this thread. Any benefit to a 3.5 ecoboost to running e85? I usually run 93 or 89 when I am towing, 87 when I am not, and I tend to fuel up about 10 gallons at a time.

I average 18.0 mpg typically, as my normal trips are 10 miles or less, once or twice a week about 20-30 miles. When I tow, typically get around 10 mpg sometimes more, sometimes less depending...but nothing significant either way.

The 3.5 is not a flex-fuel vehicle. E85 is not authorized

Interesting. What is the meaning of this then?

And also why is there a section in the manual?

Perhaps my 22 3.5 is the exception?

Its an interesting question. I can't scan the QR code for some reason so not sure where that leads. It doesn't have a flex fuel badge just the ecoboost emblem with the leaf, which i assume is standard? It doesn't say e85 under the hood, or flex fuel on the window sticker.

Googling the idea comes up with an array of things suggesting you can, and suggestion you can't. Its very odd.

On order ‘22 RCSB.
There used to be a loop hole for calculating CAFE numbers where flex fuel gave manufacturers a boost in calculated mpg’s. That loop hole got removed in 2020 so there is no longer a benefit to ford. So they stopped making the f150 E85 capable. Not sure of the timing or which F150s are/are not able to use it. Just providing the reason for them (not just ford) stopping.

per my internet search anyway

I'm guessing my yellow sticker is some sort of mistake, as I have seen such a mistake mentioned in a transit forum that lead to some sort of recall action to remove the sticker. Still odd it would be included in the owners manual but there are 2 sections, one for flex fuel and one without, so that is probably just a generic thing to cover the 5.0 engines as well.

I am pretty sure I've run unleaded 88 which is e15 with no issues (actually better mileage) when i was in south dakota and wyoming, but I believe thats a far cry from pump e85.

You should not have that sticker there. You can’t run full e85.

You can actually run 25% and this gives you a nice octane boost advancing your for timing. You need to be careful and measure it correctly. Measure it accurately, and every 5th tank fill with standard to “reset” the tank .Run good oil too, 5w-40 full synthetic.
