If you’re concerned about theft you can take the fob with you and suffer the horrible two horn blast telling the whole freaking world what you’re up to.
That can be turned off it is one of the common Forscan mods. IPC does a freakout series of tones now after an update but I don't hear that I'm outside truck.

Throw keys on back seat, get out, open back door, grab keys, lock truck. No honk-honk.

You'd think one would be used to this, but damn that horn is extra loud, it seems. I'm comparing it against our '23 Honda SUV, it has an "Alien" tone warning, and does not blast your eardrums with the horn! :curse:

I lock my fob in the truck at the range
It's one less thing in my pocket while
Shooting
My phone as well.
Only time I got concerned was when I was at the 150 yard target . Changing mine and a new shooter arrived and I felt..like darn I could get shot, they take my truck and I lay there bleeding out
But then the guy waved snd acknowledged the flashing red lights to indicate range closed..
Normally you csn be there for hours and never see another soul

Just tried your suggestion and Bam! We have a winner! I did hear the “ding-a-ding-a-ding” inside the cabin after closing the rear door, but no loud horn blasts. It’s running now with the fob in my pocket ?
Great tip sir!

That's a long dance for something I turned off in Forscan. ?

Glad you found a solution I was under impression that fob anywhere in cab would trigger the fob left behind honk.

I’m kind of confused is why you would want to do it? Can you help me understand?
Why not? I’ve been doing this in Ford/Mercury/Lincoln vehicles for over 30 years. Why take my keys from place to place when they can just stay in the vehicle and I always know they’re there?

FYI to those that want to more securely lock the keys in the truck.. I have this and it works great if you put the key in the right pocket, (It has a second pocket that the keys will work from, but the silver lined one works great, truck won't start, and doesn't even think the key is near it.

I bought this so that when I stay in less than ideal situations at night (hotels or anywhere), then a quick key spoof can't be completed. Also so that when I am at the beach or anywhere wet or I have a high chance of loss I can slip them in the bag, hide it in the bottom of my center console, or glove box, lock it with the metal key (If I really want to and hide that or take that with me), lock the door and walk away with a slightly increased peace of mind. (my logic is a criminal is looking for a quick and easy way to take off and go, they wont poke around and try to find where I hid my key fob, and wont look for a black bag against black carpet and dark interior, they will use a different method and would have the truck with the key or not, and then my key does me no good if I get back, and my truck is there but the fob is broken)

A bit off topic, but can you lock your key inside your PB truck with engine idling and leave for a short period of time? Might be convenient when you go grab a to-go order.
I was told by a friend that made a change in Forscan on his own F250, that you can turn on something called 'Cop Mode' and it allows you to leave the truck running and AC going indefinitely but also lock the doors and importantly, prevents a criminal (or your dogs) from getting the vehicle in gear and going for a joy ride as it locks the vehicle out in Park.

For my own purposes, I utilize a Faraday bag that cost like $5 off Amazon. Place my fob in the bag and then I lock the truck up and just use my code to get back in.

This sounds silly but I've had some significant concussions from racing motorcycles and now I seem to get them easier. When I lock the keys in the vehicle it's typically to Mountain bike and I get concerned that I'll hit my head and forget my code and be stranded in the middle of nowhere!

Just a thought if you take your phone with you, make a second code on your truck and then save it as a contact or add a phone to yours or someone you'd think of with the truck. Add the (yyy) xxx-xx35 (yyy being your area code so it looks like a standard number and no one else thinks about it, and xxxxx being for your new code that you can deactivate and change at any time and not the trucks hard one). 3 is unlock all doors, 5 is drop tailage, so just completest the phone number.

Not an issue with locking/unlocking I have both fobs….just wondering about all the battery issues I have read about.
After much reading and then an odd battery indication I purchased a non-Ford battery (I'm partial to NAPA). Put it in 2 1/2 years ago, three Wyoming winters, and not a single problem. Coming up on three years now and wondering just how long these AGM batteries can go. Have had a flooded cell battery go 8 years...

I have multiple vehicles stuffed in the barn. If I don't make keys available, by leaving them with the vehicles, I'm going to be sought and requested to come move things around so "they" can use my tools and lift.

It's a small trusted audience. They are pretty good about leaving things like they found them when they are finished.

At work I am parked in an aircraft hangar inside the secure side of the airport. So I do have a habit of leaving keys with vehicles at both ends of my commute.

The Mach-E has forced a new wrinkle with the Phone As The Key. I have a FOB hidden in the car with the battery removed. That's just in case the PAAK fails and the password prompt on the Sync screen doesn't work either. At some point I hope to trust it enough, but it takes me a little while. :)

I just wanted to admit that after 30 months of ownership, due to this thread, I just started using the bottom two buttons on the door keypad this week to lock the truck versus using the little black button on the front door or the FOB or the inside lock buttons. Maybe I'll go a few more months before figuring out how to set a custom code or how to unlock the truck with the door keypad. LOL

I’ve been doing it since I got the truck 3 years ago, no issues whatsoever. I do a combination of locking/unlocking via the keypad on the door and FordPass depending where I am/what I’m doing. I’ve left it close to a full week before at the airport with zero issues, whoever is saying it’ll kill the battery probably hasn’t tried it…

I hate having to worry about where they are and dealing with another thing in my pocket so I just leave them there. Only time it could bite me in the ass would be if the battery were to die, but I’ve been fine taking the risk so far.
Same. Its been two years with my keys in the truck. Cant even tell you where they are in my truck anymore. haha.
