I've been leaving the key/fob in my truck while in my garage for as long as I can remember. Never have to look for them when I want to go some place. Also, if I am outside working around my house and want to move the truck to gain access to something else in the garage, I can just get in the truck and move it and not have to walk inside and look for keys. In the fall, when I go hunting, I lock my key in the truck using the buttons on the outside. Always afraid of somehow losing my key somewhere in the woods and being SOL. Never had a problem with doing this.

I used to have the same problem, even with a hook and bowl. Solved it with AirTag.
Sounded like a great idea until i checked into it. Seems they work GREAT with an iphone, of which I don't have. Samsung tags seem to have a LOT of issues, so that kind of rules those options out. Change to an iphone and be forced into a new one every every year because of obsolescense? Naw! Maybe the reviews are wrong with the Samsung Android tags. I'll get one, not much of a gamble I guess. All of our FOBS are kept in RF pouches to prevent new school auto theives from hacking the ignitions of our cars so the tags would be fixed externally to the pouches.

Your Samsung if it has been updated will see Apple air tags.

Not an issue. Truck will still go to sleep with keys inside.

If you want to lock the keys in truck you need to use the two bottom buttons on keypad. This overrides the safety feature that normally won't allow you to lock keys inside. Be sure you have the code to get in before you do that. :)
And as an added Forum BONUS, I can add, keep all your master codes into a nice little spreadsheet with your home address for reference, and the time you go to bed. The file will be maintained online via a shared Google Group.

Be sure to get a third fob made and leave in a plastic rock right outside the garage too.

Seriously though everyone should get a third fob. I actually have 4 of them. One is not the right model so it can't communicate wirelessly and only works dropped in the "secret" slot.

I’m kind of confused is why you would want to do it? Can you help me understand?
Here's three examples why i lock my keys in the truck...

1. Beach - when I go on vacation and visit the beach, I don't want to lose my key, so I lock it in the truck.
2. Running - when I run a 5 mile competitve race I don't want to carry my key wjen running on a trail that's highly covered in leaves and a canopy of trees with little sunlight throughout
3. Maintenance - at my rentals doing maintenance or mowing - again, don't want to lose it in the middle of the yard or drop it in a toilet bowl when replacing a seal on a toilet tank or down the drain when replacing a wax ring on the toilet itself

A bit off topic, but can you lock your key inside your PB truck with engine idling and leave for a short period of time? Might be convenient when you go grab a to-go order.

All the trucks you can do that but only with using the bottom two buttons on keypad. You'll need keypad code to get back into truck.

I do this but I take the fob with me and leave truck running.

I’ve been doing it since I got the truck 3 years ago, no issues whatsoever. I do a combination of locking/unlocking via the keypad on the door and FordPass depending where I am/what I’m doing. I’ve left it close to a full week before at the airport with zero issues, whoever is saying it’ll kill the battery probably hasn’t tried it…

I hate having to worry about where they are and dealing with another thing in my pocket so I just leave them there. Only time it could bite me in the ass would be if the battery were to die, but I’ve been fine taking the risk so far.

I do it when the dogs are with me and I need to go in a store for a few minutes. I do turn the generator mode on to prevent the PB from timing out should I get delayed for whatever reason. That way the boys are nice and cool behind ceramic IR15 with the AC on until I come back or it runs out of gas.
If you’re concerned about theft you can take the fob with you and suffer the horrible two horn blast telling the whole freaking world what you’re up to.
