Joined this forum so I could specifically reply to this thread. I have a 2021 Powerboost and experienced the same issue. Was powering my travel trailer and it was a warm night. Truck said engine running due to engine being cold but that was not accurate. Turned off the truck, let sit for a while and turned it back on. Everything worked fine overnight. Next evening it happened again. Something is definitely glitching, but there are no errors being sent to my Ford pass app. Who knows…..

Kinda funny observation: When my truck is at low idle, the display shows the reason for the engine running is because the battery is charging however, when it displays that, the yellow line in the truck icon that is shown on your truck is not there on mine. The engine and the battery icon show up, but it is not connected by the yellow charging line…Strange!

I would like to give a shout out to @Ford Motor Company - As I originally mentioned, it was apparent that my dealership had no experience with generator issues on the Powerboost. Shortly after I posted, I was contacted by a Ford representative who assisted me in getting a case established with their team regarding my problem.

My truck is scheduled to go in at the end of next week for a service call related to this issue. I’ll keep you guys posted on the diagnosis, but now have a renewed sense of confidence that this will be less frustrating since Ford is involved. “You’re my boy, Blue!”
I feel a bit like a killjoy for even asking the question, but you stated "it was apparent that my dealership had no experience with generator issues on the Powerboost".

So even though the Ford representative reached out to the dealership on your behalf, what might change regarding their lack of expertise?

I just hope you get your truck into some service bay somewhere that belongs to a tech that's qualified to FIX the factory defect.

Well, I feel more confident that the dealership has a resource to lean on rather than taking my truck on a two mile drive and saying that they couldn’t duplicate the issue must be miraculously healed.

Perfect. I just saw this. Please do let us know what they did once yours is fixed.

What was the resolution for your problem?

Sorry Juiceman! I've been off this forum since I got rid of my Powerboost and just noticed an email that you had a question...

Long story short, the plan Ford had was to provide me a truck to use while I took mine into a dealership and they conducted a "harvest" on my truck. The dealership claimed they had no idea what that meant and that they had no experience with the team that wanted to conduct the harvest. According to the service manager, it was a new engineering group that was dealing with solely Powerboost issues.

By a strange coincidence, I got a call from another dealership the following day that a F250 Powerstroke I had ordered for over a year was delivered and ready to go. (Back story, I had two trucks ordered at the same time. I had ordered the F250 Platinum first, then ordered the F150 PB Platinum second when I was hearing all of the good things online about the trucks. At the time, there was a shortage of trucks and had no concern from either dealership that they wouldn't be able to sell either truck immediately.) I decided I didn't want to have a "harvest" done on my truck (sounded like a post-mortem type of procedure), so I traded my PB in for the PS.

This is my third PS and know exactly what I'm getting. I wish things had worked out with the PB, but wasn't ready for all the drama of driving another truck for lawd knows how long until it was pieced out, sent to some lab, analyzed and put back together for me after who knows how long.

At the end of the day, I appreciate the technology and loved the truck when it was running, but decided it's a lot easier to have reliability I'm familiar with with the diesel and take a generator along to my deer lease when needed.

Good luck and hope things fall into place with your situation!!

Best,
DD

Working on the new TT, bringing it home tomorrow but one of the things I did today, was hook it up to the PB to give it a test running the air conditioner.

Haven't made the adaptor to use the 30 amp yet but had the gear to plug it in to one of the 20s. I had the trucks AC on. It kept running for some several minutes and had me wondering. Turned off the truck's AC and as soon as I did, the ICE shut off and the batt took over as it should.

I didn't note the SOC of the camper's house batt, so it may have been drawing some too.

Anyway,

Made the cord to run the camper off the 30 amp last eve.

Here it is powering the camper's air conditioner.

The truck cycled, running the ICE about a minute, every 10 or 15. It was not hot yesterday so, the camper's ac load wasn't heavy but I let this test run for several truck and camper ac cycles. The worst case scenario was met, meaning camper ac compressor running, ICE still turning off once the big batt was charged. Functioned flawlessly.

The trucks AC was off but I did try running the fan all the way up to 7 and there was no change.

So, we know running the truck's ac can affect cycling but the fan, at least on my truck, under these conditions, didn't hurt anything.

So, for those experiencing excessive heat in the cabs, maybe you could at least crack the windows and run the fan.

If you grab an OBDLink adapter, and you aren't too far from the truck (I am sitting in the RV with no issue connecting), you can monitor things like RPM and SOC of the Hybrid battery, as well as the real draw in Amps from the battery.

After a while, you'll learn the pattern for "normal" and it will take just a glance to see if it's working outside those expected parameters.

Below is an Android phone (or tablet) dashboard layout that I built using the free software that is manufactured by the company that builds/sells the adapter.

The gauges at the top are the Ecoboost gauges, and the gauges at the bottom are the Hybrid/ProPower gauges

Snake I have the OBDLINK MX+, I have added the hybrid battery info to make dashboard but am looking for the 12v battery SOC, have you had any luck finding that?

@charliecbp

That's an early dashboard that is legacy now. ?

This is my current dashboard (below) and you will see all the "electric" pids I currently monitor at the bottom. (circled in yellow are the low voltage pids) I will add the PID-mapping location for those pids.

There's a thread around here somewhere that has the location of every pid on the dashboard. I'll try to find it and post a link.
Note that @turbopilot has developed a much more granular dashboard and has shared it as well. Hopefully he'll see the tag and point you at the most current thread related to getting a nice OBDLink dashboard up.

Thank You!! I was looking for all of the low voltage stuff in the BECM
My dashboard doesn't look anywhere near that nice or that functional, I have some work to do!

Both my current and @turbopilot dashboard are available for download and import.

Here's mine (attached)
Remember the download is a file with the extension "pdf"
That is required to upload to the forum.
After you download it, change the extention to ". stg" from ".pdf"

(attaching isn't working for me currently. I will continue to work at it. Check back here)
