I know a couple guys who have to have SDs to pull 5th wheel RVs and they can't wait for the SD version.
Agreed. PB should be part of any number of platforms: Maverick, Transit, Expedition, etc.

Anyone know what effect the stop/start cycling of PB will do to the Powerstroke? Seems like diesel bros don’t care to turn their engines off much as it is.

This gentleman gets it. ?

I embrace the Consumer Reports tagging completely. I have no problem telling folks that bring it up "Yep! It's the most unreliable pickup truck sold in America and I've purchased 3 of them. I won't ever be without one."

I would like to add because sometimes I can come off a little strong. I'm not knocking the truck. I've been told that has a lot to do with the fact I've driven Super Duties for most of my life. So for me to be more comfortable towing and hauling I prefer a stiffer ride. I stayed with 116 t tires. They have a Max PSI of 44 and I'm currently running them at 40. I knew I needed to stay away from e-ply and it wasn't necessary. With that being said I really think there's a market for a heavy duty version of the f-150. There is so much difference between an F-150 and a 250.
They make a heavy-duty payload package for the F-150. Pretty tough to find, but it is out there.

I have to say I'm pretty surprised to read your comment on ride quality with the Super Duty. I've had them for a week-long press loan and have had to use a heating pad on my back every night. With the updated SD, they told me they focused on improving ride quality. I had a very short drive around time and if they improved it, it would be a few percentage points.

I have an open invitation to CR's operation and test track. I just haven't made a plan to get up there yet since it is such a long trip for me. I've also spoken with them at length about their findings and shared a few criticisms I've had. All I'll say is they have their business model and they aren't changing for better or worse. Sometimes I think they are spot on and other times I'm scratching my head.

Doing videos on their yearly best of lists are always fun. The comment section is ON FIRE with the lovers and haters of CR. I just sit back and eat my popcorn.

I think you have to get a Platinum or above. On my 2019 window sticker it said something about the front suspension. My other work trucks were xlts. My personal truck was a platinum. It was night and day difference. Now I'll be honest I could be full of beans, but my wife is a pretty good gauge of truck suspension ? she asked lots of questions when I started modifying my f-150. My other Super Duties would want to change lanes on the freeway when you hit a bump and I can honestly say that my Platinum never did that. Again I have no proof that there is actually anything different but there may be.

Doesn't have any impact. The GM 3.0L diesel has start/stop. I've spoken to engineers and customers. Nobody has had an issue with that.

Interestingly, the start/stop is such a non-issue really, yet it gets a lot of attention from people from a reliability point of view. I did an interview with an engineer about it and he said three key things:

1. The starter is MUCH more robust than it used to be.
2. They send a very small amount of energy to the engine to start it again.
3. The computer remembers the exact firing order and they are really only sending the small spark to get the next in-line cylinder firing again.

He also said engines don't care if they start or stop with these intervals.

As a side, I know a lot of the GM crowd likes to say the AFM/DFM systems shutting down cylinders causes oil problems. I once asked a GM engineer about that. He gave me the coldest stare I've ever seen and replied, "that's not happening." Pretty sure that's a sore spot for engineers, who btw, read forums all the time and YouTube comments.

Loving my 24 platinum pb. Other than the ride being awful and handling being pretty bad (compared to my former 2019 ram with air suspension, forget about anything intended to handle well) its been a great vehicle. This is my second american vehicle, second ever pickup truck and first ever ford product and im impressed. I hope nome of the gremlins folks report materialize. .

This is very accurate. Far too many people think the higher trim levels are only about leather seats and a bigger screen. The ride is different, sound deadening is better, the tires are typically better, etc...

2023 PB 501a 4x4 short bed 7.2KW. PL=1658lbs.
I keep asking Ford where is the SuperDuty PB and I get a deer in the headlights look. I swear they don't know what they have with most things. I still remember being at the media launch event for the Maverick and they had no idea how popular it would be. I just don't get the leadership team at times.
By The way Tim, your tow vids and camper powering vids, were very helpful in my decision to choose the PB. I was headed that way anyway but helpful, none the less.

Thanks.

But what they shouldn't do, is raise them, throw big tires at them and then bitch at the reduction in mpg, or that their self adjusting headlights don't work any more.

Or go in and tinker with the computer system and then be surprised when something goes wrong.
But I also made my own light control module too. I'm leveled on 34s and have on-the-fly in cab height adjustment for the projectors. I think what you really meant to say is that any LED equipped truck/suv without the ability to adjust their cutoff level based on load should be limited in total light output?

In-fact, I'd go as for to require all vehicles that can be equipped with a tow hitch to be mandated to have factory self-leveling headlights while also allowing increased light output, especially on the brights.

Only if CCD is a component, and if you get CCD and don't like it, TFB. Know what the difference between a platinum FX4s suspension and an XLT FX4 suspension is? The price they paid for it (deletes CCD, aka magneride). Changing up wheels/tires with CCD is a gamble as it's calibrated for specific unsprung mass.

The platinum door cards have a wee bit more pillow behind them (it's a different shape), which is moot if you toss some butyl rubber in the door. Their roofs are equally as poor. People would be quite surprised if they saw just how much sound deadening and NVH mitigation techniques ford has put into every trim of the F150 (14th gen anyway). Just about every major internal plastic part has some type of 'pillow' behind it. Some are attached on hooks, others are sonically welded.

Perhaps, but there are few to no complaints about the Coyote.

I like playing the odds.
Even fewer regarding the 2.7L. Once you go weak why stop at the 5.0? ?

What's interesting is CR rates the PB significantly lower than other F-150s.

PB reliability is rated 7 out of 100 and the non PB 150 is rated 40 out of 100, still not good, but significantly better than the PB's score.

It's been this way for three years now, so I'm not surprised the PB's bad reputation is so entrenched, so much so that Ford has to give the PB away for 'free' now, through the $1900 PowerBoost Hybrid Discount.
Easily the greatest half ton pickup ever made.

It's been in the 80s for the last week and pollen is everywhere. Already missing winter. It's going to be a long nine months. :(
